Last Thursday, I stopped by an antique/coin shop in San Diego. The first thing I noticed was the very reasonable prices this older gentleman had on his coins. He also had lots of antique bottle on shelves and mineral specimens. Well, I started browsing his coins when a particular one caught my eye. It turned out to be an 1892-O Morgan dollar that had a darker brown patina on it. Being familiar with what a "ground find" looks like, I asked him about it. He stated that he bought it years ago from a gentleman who found it with a metal detector in the California Ghost Town of Bodie. Bodie has a very interesting story of being a thriving gold mining town from 1864 to about the late 1920's. At one time, Bodie had 65 Saloons and at least 1 killing per day. In 1964, the State of California took it over and named it a State Historic Park. The shop owner also showed me a bottle from Bodie which are very rare in any condition. Whether or not this coin comes from Bodie, (there is no evidence other than what he told me) there is still an interesting fascination I had with it and needless to say, I had to have it swcoin.ecrater.com

For it to be VAM 10, the 9 in the date has to be doubled inside of the upper loop, and the 2 doubled at the top outside. On the reverse the mint mark has to be tilted right. This one does appear to have the tilted mint mark but I can't make out any doubling on the date.

I think its VAM 10 do to the combination of the normal date placement, and the tilted right MM, the only other posted tilted right coin is a far date which yours is not..

Yeah, why not? You never know what you'll find although they may be slightly higher than FMV.
