Good evening CCF. I know very little about grading and even less about TPG slabs , so I'm asking for advice. Due to verdigris on the reverse, this graded 1972 DDD-002 cent was offered to me by a friend at a very low price compared to others that I have seen for sale. I have a credit with NGC and thought I might ask you guys if the "conservation" process by TPG would help bring the grade up to 65. I'm don't want to crack the slab.. Hope you understand my question. Thanks for your comments.

In my opinion, I'd leave it as is. It doesn't look that bad.

agreed, it looks fine as is, and I don't think it would upgrade to a 65.

Grading of that era ANACS slab is generally considered to be poorer (looser) than before or after. With the inflation of grades by so-called better TPGs since then...

maybe

maybe not

I could see 63, 64, or 65... or maybe UNC Details...

I don't see any verdigris. I see what looks to be cupric oxide corrosion near the reverse rim at 10. If it's black cupric oxide, it cannot be removed without damaging the coin.

That said, best left alone. If you want a 65, sell this one and buy new one.

goldnugget. Not that I can see. I have several 1972 DDO cents and I am not aware of a variety with VDB on the shoulder. Thanks
