As of late I am watching for ways to improve my counterfeit coin detection skills. I just wonder if I am seeing fakes where none exist. This one attracted my attention.

What are some expert opinions on this coin?

My concerns are:
Liberty's hair and ear as well as the folds in the gown.
An odd look to the word "LIBERTY".
The denticles on both sides of the coin.
The roughness of the letters and wreath on the reverse.

I'm a total novice so my opinion is worthless but it looks funky to me especially the Liberty.

Liberty looks all wrong. I had to look at another one, and the face IS off. This is a pic of one I would LOVE to have. LOL

Am-I-Seeing-Things?

I would say fake.

Oh yeah, good eye! I agree, looks fake to me. Slanted, elongated LIBERTY and "cartoonish" looks to Miss Liberty.

Well, I would be hesitant to buy from someone who accepts international "monney" orders.

it definitely looks funny to me, something about the face just doesn't look right. Even the word LIBERTY doesn't look right to me. I am going to say this one looks counterfeit to me

Yeah, definitely looks bogus. The guy currently winning has purchased 23 Half Dimes in the past 30 days. Wonder what others he bought?

There are several indicators to me that this coin is a counterfeit. The head of Liberty, the word LIBERTY, the raised metal spot on the rock just left of the shield, the extra metal on the stars on the obverse. The details are not as "clean" as they should be. On the reverse, the many raised irregular lines and spots on the letters on the reverse screams cast copy.

I'm not convinced the coin is fake, but I think it may have been "worked on" and some re-engraving done. This is a known variety from shattered dies on both sides of the coin. (Or if it is a fake it was made from one of that variety.)
