Great collection and story behind it! I still have many Whitman folders that I worked on as a youth. Now I'm going to have to pull them out and see where I was when I was about 12...

The Whitman folder inspired many of us to start our collections, I may have a few

I still have all my old Whitman folders after the transfer to Dansco albums. Some still have coins in them from when I though it would be fun to re-complete them with duplicates.

Maybe I will consider it again...

Ah! Bring back a few memories.
Thanks for sharing your story.

I'm glad you have completed your set.
Congrats!

I maybe mistaken but I believe you were born in a foreign country also. Coming to America something as simple as US coins can bring joy to children that don't know much about the US.

Wow - the excitement you put into this story and the entire write up made my day! Your collection puts mine to shame for condition and I am so happy for you!

Congratulations on such a great milestone.

Thank you for the nice words. I really did try to make the story entertaining.

As to condition, yes the Dansco has really nice coins, but they don't have the same feelings as the Whitman folders. If nothing else, that was the set I started. Sometimes a set of BU coins is just a set of BU coins while a set of circulated has a story. The story is usually better than the BU coins

Unless the story involves coins that are road rashed or found in a parking lot than those are pretty much worthless, so Road Rashed Parking lot coins are not better than a Dansco with BU coins

I had to throw out the original Whitman folder as they fell apart over the 4 decades, but you should really complete the old folders, they are a window to the past.

I manged to keep mine in decent shape. I only used them from about 1980 to 1985. They were in a box for a long time until I moved and had the idea to put some coins in them.

hfjacinto, so how much does she charge to put you in her newsletter?
A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!

Based on you getting a shout out I assumed my charm and good looks would be all I need but I may have to revisit that
