Beautiful coin and an excellent idea for a topic, GLB49! Golden Gate International Exposition 1939 - Union Pacific / ALCOA medallion featuring the Streamliner and Challenger locomotives
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

1844 - Berlin Railway Exposition - Medal Bronze. 45 mm, 52.6 grams Obverse: Germania seated left on a rock and facing right, draped and with a laurel crown; her left hand is on the rock, a sword resting against and a wreath in her right hand; upon the rock "Seid Einig" (be united!) Reverse: a design with iconic representions of German industry featuring the 'Adler' at its center crossing a span - the first German steam engine to enter service for the commercial transport of goods and persons, designed by the Brothers Stephenson of Newcastle, designers of the English 'Rocket.' The original loco was sold for iron scrap in 1848 to Herr Direktor Ludwig Riedinger of Augsburg. The most recent replica, built to the original specifications and largely using original materials when possible was completed in October 2007 and has been very occasionally used for VIP events since 2008. Designer: Loos; Engravers: Lorenz & Schilling. Wurzbach 685; Marienburg 4234.
