Eisenhower that I got recently as change from chinese food place :D . It looks like an ordinary Ike, but if you look closesly you can see that there is a die error on the top of the right wing and head of the eagle. It feels sharp on the edges and does have feeling of metal, so it's not glue, and glue wouldn't be so perfectly alligned at the top. How much could this be potentially worth with that kind of minting error?   |

This isn't a toonie at all!  You're lucky I collect these things, random cashier, or you'd be getting an earful, believe you me. According to Google, this is a token put out by Van Brook, apparently the source of every single car-wash token you've ever seen. However, it appears to be an example token - so, the token salesman pulls up to your car wash, starts fumbling around in his pockets for his array of control tokens, puts them out on your counter, and tells you how successful your business can be with Van Brook Tokens Ltd. (est 1964). I assume that a crafty car-wash owner grabbed the tooniest token when the salesman wasn't looking and passed it off as two dollars to some poor chump. |

Two firsts! Apparently coins circulate much faster in Ottawa. - First 2013 loonies found, but I have yet to see the doubled-die variety... - First Laura Secord quarters found, completing the War of 1812 commemorative set. The RCM actually ran a TV ad for this quarter, presumably to increase the profit they make when people keep coins - smart! (They also give away free cardboard holders for every commemorative series.) |

Today was another surprise of about the same level as yesterday's (See: https://goccf.com/t/153519 ) A customer pulled a handful of quarters out of his pocket, one of which instantly caught my eye as a proof. The customer proceeded to examine the proof for a moment before adding it to the change he was handing me, knowing it was different but not seeming to care even after I commented on it so I sat it aside to swap out when I had a moment... That quarter turned out to be a SILVER proof Oregon State Quarter, looks like it's been in a few pockets but still has plenty of luster left. |

Weird coincidence - heard on the radio, just before leaving for work, that it was Nelson Mandela's 95th birthday. Halfway through my 15-minute walk to the office, I saw a little bronze coin on the sidewalk and picked it up - it was a 1999 South African cent!

Took a 1962 quarter out of the tip container in the lounge car on the train down from New York and replaced it with a 1996 :D He'll never know the difference, I wouldn't have if I hadn't spotted the date!
