I was just wondering if you carry any coins with you for good lock or just to show off when a chance comes, or to brake the ice. Anyway if you do just tell me which coin you carry and why?

I carry a 1988 Canadian Loon Dollar. 1988 is the year my girlfriend was born, and she'd had this coin since she was a child. She gave it to me when we first got together. She knew I was a coin collector, and I carry it because of the sentimental value and it's just kool. I reciprocated by giving her one of the first 1980 Anthony dollars I ever found, as 1980 is my birthyear. So we both carry a dollar from the other's birthyear.

Great topic idea Podoprigora! For about 3 years now I've been carrying around a 1923 Peace dollar. I literally have no idea where it came from or how I got it - its just kinda always been mine. Nothing numismatic about it, its been polished and has suffered many dings floating in my pockets. My life had pretty much hit bottom and I re-discovered this coin (along with my childhood wheatie collection) when clearing out my old apartment. I don't know why exactly, but I popped it in my pocket and have carried it everyday for three years now. My life turned around pretty well and, silly as it may sound, I credit the coin as much as anything else. It also is responsible for getting me interested in coin collecting as an adult. A talisman if I ever saw one :) --Gary

Nice stories, as for me every time I look for a coin to just carry around I get to cheap and end up putting in into my collection, the coin I want to carry around with me is a Russian czar ruble, its big, its silver, and I like it hopefully I wont end up placing it into my collection.

I don't carry one as they have a nasty habit of falling out of my pockets. When I get home from any shopping the coins are first checked (for any rare or new dates) and then stored until I can get rid of them in bulk. I always tell the shopkeepers here that I'm European royalty and so don't carry loose change!!

This is my pocket piece / lucky penny. It started as an experiment to watch the coin tone. I cleaned it till it shone and then carried it in my pocket every day. I watched it go through some beautiful colour changes and end up with it's current patina. About a year ago ,I gave it to a friend of mine who had cancer. I told him it is my lucky penny and I want it back when he is well. He made a full recovery and gave me back the coin. Definetly a lucky penny. Steve

Hey triggersmob
Nice story. Hope you don't ever have to pass it on to another friend but... "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

Isle of Man 1996 penny with the rugby ball reverse. I played rugby for 35 years, and it's marked me just as much as the coin is marked through being in my pocket for 14 years.

I'm not superstitious, so I wouldn't do it for that reason. But sometimes I leave a couple of coins here at the office or for a few days, I'll carry a dateless Buffalo to show folks who I know I'm gonna be around that have a "mild" interest in coins. But, like some, I'm sure.......I'm just afraid that I'll "lose" any semi-valuable coin.... .......So......I wouldn't dare carry one every single day as a "habit". I'm jealous of those who can and do though.....and like reading this post.

I have 4 wheaties that I'm carrying around right now. They have some damage and dings from circulation and I'm hoping to carry them around until they hit AG condition. You can see the high points are starting to get some wear on them and the high points are getting polished. I like the idea of the Morgan... maybe I'll pickup a junky one at a coinshow.

Usually only what may be needed for a road toll, tip at some place. Otherwise I hate carrying change of any kind. My Son carries no money of any kind. All done with credit/debit cards. Almost same with me. I really prefer plastic over any type of money. Lately almost everything can be done with plastic. And many of those give you free money just to use them. One friend of mine recently got two shirts and a pair of gloves free at a place called Cabella just for using their credit card. Bank of America also has a money type savings to use their cards. Why carry anything you don't have to?

Great topic --- I havent been collecting long, a very good friend got me hooked. My dad had cancer and passed away in November of 08. Week before he passed away he gave me a 1972 Kennedy half dollar that he had stored away. Oddly enough, or not, it was the birth year for me. I am a half roll hunter and look at minimum 3000 halves a week and see scads of 72's, nothing as special as the one I carry with me now each day...
