You could have people take a picture of their favorite coin and then add colors or edit it in creative ways. You could then select the winner. Might favor the tech-savvy, but would be interesting to see the results!

Yeah, I would rather it didn't favor some skill or another.

Here's a hint: The prerequisite to winning the prize - at least, the prize is useless of you don't have this - is a computer with Wifi running either XP or Mac OS X 10.4, or newer.

Maybe get a pile of change, no special coins, just a couple handfuls and take a picture. Weigh them on a decent scale and have people guess what they weighed. People might take a shot at duplicating the image but have enough coins that it would be tough. Have the answer in grams or pounds and ounces. Oh well, that's my simple idea.

Do it in US Pennies. Won't know if they are pre or post 1982. Nearest g wins.

Cool idea.

My idea would be to have a HANGMAN GAME. We would have to guess the country and demonination of the WORLD COINS. (say from 1901 to 2000). Use the big catalog to get your ideas. For example it would look something like this:

COUNTRY: ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ (6 letters)
DENOMINATION: ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ (6 letters)

The answer could be: Canada - Dollar (but depending on the blanks in the denomination field, you could have put 4 blanks for the word CENT or 5 blanks for the word CENTS or 7 blanks for the word DOLLARS. All of these are coin denominations from the oountry of Canada.

This is more or less a learning type game of world coins, but in the the Hangman game theme.

1. S/Dave is a (coin) photography nut (sorry) guru.
2. The prize is computer related.

The contest:
Doctor up an image of a coin to create the wackiest error/variety. To have an objective judging put it out for the members' vote to determine the winner.

What if SuperDave distorts a coin where there is only a little left of the true image? Tug it, pull it cockeyed, and change the color of it while keeping it round.

OR combine 2 coins together and we have to tell you what 2 coins comprise your "combination" photo.

Kind of like an "ALTERED COIN IMAGE" game.

SuperDave can work his magic on all types of coins that way. :)

Is there a prize for the person that thinks up your new contest, Dave?

<<<<<<< will think of many more ideas if there is a prize involved. I love prizes.
So, you better set me straight me now.

OK........I am on a roll now. Here are more ideas for a coin contest where someone with an expertise in photography can host it.

#1......... Take a picture of 8 or so coins. BUT, make it a jigsaw puzzle looking picture. We will have to print it out.......cut it in pieces (where you have the wiggly lines drawn) and then put it back to together correctly so we can see the whole coins and then NAME EACH COIN in order with the country.

#2 -------- You put a template on the coin where only a small portion of it shows to us. Then we have to figure out what the coin is based on the little portion of it we see.

#3 -------- Forget about the contest and just send your prize to me.

Was this contest ever started? The topic is from last October. Maybe a good idea for the contest is when will SuperDave realize this topic is active again and post.
