Yes I agree that the small shops are a better deal. No shipping costs or waiting plus no delivery co. Involved. My local shop charges 3percent over spot for most silver. I believe $3 over spot for Eagles so when you figure everything it is a better deal locally

That is a good deal on the Sunshine Rounds. They must have just went on sale. I'm mainly interested in the silver content, but I like have some variety too. Unfortunately, there's no local coin shop where I live. The best deals I've been able to find are the 90% stuff on ebay. I've been able to get some pre-1965 quarters and dimes at the melt value/price shipping included.

Very positive experience from APMEX also. Bank wired payment gets me the coins in hand within a week, crossing a border to boot. If only shipping fees can be lower (makes you wish you were buying gold, with the surcharge on weight of silver they are charging). Wiring also takes another bite on the pocket change.

With all the fees is it really less to buy like that or better from a local? Just wondering

When it comes to Maples it is all about the premiums. SO the answer is pretty easy figure out the total cost. Spot + Premium + Shipping = Total cost per MapleSpot + Premium + Gas & Time = Total cost per Maple
I know everyone knows this. So what is one of the best deals right now? Silvertowne 1- Silver Maple = $37.95 (free Shipping) 25 - Silver Maple = $905 / $36.20 each (free Shipping) APMEX1 - Silver Maple = $34.19 Plus Shipping 25 - Silver Maple = $854.75 / $34.19 each Plus Shipping This means add them up in your cart then price the shipping prior to ordering. As a general rule when ordering from an on line service figure $10 shipping on one coin and $25 on 25 coins. Of course ordering between 1 & 25 will fall somewhere in between. Yes if you search you can find other low prices from some other fine internet chops. Buying Maples local for me is not an option for two reasons. 1.) Maples are very hard to find. 2.) When I do find them they come with a $5 plus premium charge. @ Every local dealer has their own price range so you should check them first to see if you can make a better purchase.

Yes but local shops don't have the delivery person basically knowing either and a wire transfer fee that many of the online places require. I guess if no one local a problem for sure. My shop is only 3 miles from home so not much in time or gas plus in hand. We all aren't so lucky to have a closeby reasonabe shop. Let's put it this way back * little over 2 year ago I wanted to buy junk silver. I never did since at the time min purchase was 1000 face plus wire trans etc. I found out about the local shop just last year he sells any dollar amount at a price comparable to online places.

I also didn't want a delivery person aware of a purchase like that plus trip to the bank for the wire. Good deal since when I was looking back then the 1000 face was around $7000!

How would the delivery person even have a clue of what they are delivering? My packages state nothing about their content who or who sent it. As far as they know they are sending me needs parts for one of my farm tractors. The box and return information shares no information about the contents. For example the return address for APMEX is APX with the address. I doubt anyone is going to take the time to try and find out who APX is or what it stands for. Most places I know give you a choice to send a personal check with no added fees. Of course if you want your stuff faster you can send a bank wire or use a credit card for an extra fee. I have a 120 mile round trip to the nearest coin dealer so I have both fuel and time as an extra cost.

I think a delivery person wouldn't have a clue if from an ebay or other place with feww sales. I'm fairly sure they know the return addresses from PM dealers. The mint return address is Plainfield I'll and I'm sure it's a well known fact. I just don't like anyone involved if I can helf plus all the banking/credit card papertrail

I understand why you use the online purchase. For me quicker easier and safer to buy locally since so very close. I just think the least possible people involved the better plus seeing exactly what you are buying at point of sale.

That's fair but you high a higher probability of being followed from a coin shop by a bad guy than a postal employee taking the time to figure out the shipping addresses from PM companies.
I mean if you are a drug user or just a bad guy it is so easy to follow the trail from the coin shop. Think about it fast easy and for certain the person you are going to rob has what you are looking for.
Some of the largest robberies / murders happen this way. Makes you think.

The question of buying local or on-line really isn't an either / or deal for most of us. I tend to use both and buy where I can get the best deal. Sometimes that is local and sometimes not. I like the fact that the big on-line sellers tend to have a great selection and quantity of merchandise. If I want 100 Maples, they are the place to go. The local guys rarely, if ever, have even a single silver Maple. If they did, they would probably charge at least $5-6 premium over spot for it. I do buy a few coins here and there but prefer to buy in whole tube quantities or better. My on-line suppliers are APMEX, Provident Metals, and SilverTowne. All of these have good features and they often have sale items that are cheaper than anyone else. The recent APMEX Silver Maple sale at $2.79 over spot is a good example of this. Buying during their sales can work really well. I also like the fact that SilverTowne will ship their 5-10 oz. silver bars for free. Yes, they charge a bit more per bar for this but they also sell them wrapped in air-tight plastic that protects the bars from fingers, air, and each other. That way, they will stay great looking for many years to come. SilverTowne also does not charge extra for using a credit card, which is nice too. APMEX is great, especially if you like stacking 90% silver coins. They tend to have LOTS of them and they also tend to have a variety of grades. If you want F/VF, AU, or BU, they often have them in stock and in some quantity. No matter how we slice it, having multiple vendors for coins and bullion is a good deal for us collectors.
