if it's fake...it's more than likely not silver.
can you weigh the coin in grams?

Got a magnet? You could always utilize a conductivity meter (or eddy current) on it as a nondestructive means of metal sorting.

Unfortunately, it is a fake- the date is terrible Chances of it being composed of silver are slim to none, most likely composition is a nickel alloy or some other cheap white metal. Since it is most definitely a counterfeit, it has no value other than for educational purposes. Where did you obtain it?

Judging by the 3 it is an altered 1898-S. This would make it silver. Should be worth melt.

I call fake on this coin - the 3 from a mile away is not right!
Selling a counterfiet can be illegal, so if you sell it as a fake, you could still get in trouble, not worth the trouble.

Definitely not the real deal. I am thinking altered 1883-S since the 9 actually looks more bizzare than the 3.

Same, vermontensium. Looks real false to me. The date is like no other date I have ever seen on a Morgan.
