My favorite above is the diademed portrait, but the laureate is my favorite of all the Elizabeth IIs.

I guess the uncrowned one above will be the last variety we see.

Hey maybe we'll get lucky and they'll do a new portrait for her 100th birthday! Haha

I agree Laureate Bust 1953-1964 as best overall.

The Queen looks much older now then Uncrowned Effigy. I think in a couple of years the RCM should age her some more. Every 10 years or so like they have been doing. From the Monarchy's perspective it shows stability and a good reign. I say continue with tradition in this case... because we will never see a Monarchy's head on a coin for so long again. One side of the coin for tradition and the other for good canadian artwork, designs, and ideas. In circulated series coins like the nickel it is interesting to see the aging of the Queen. In NCLT the Queens image seems so secondary most of the time.

I don't care if she doesn't have her crown but I think the current portrait looks more like Camilla than it does Elizabeth. The 1953-1964 and 1965-1989 versions are both my favourite. but in the case of this poll I voted 1990-2003. I really hope we get a new portrait for her 60th onwards.

Chris, I like your avatar! Can't wait to get mine too.

Based on the comments and poll results so far, it is easy to declare the winner - which is obviously the Crowned Queen. Hands down.

Personally, I totally dislike the Modern Queen design. I think that her shoulders should be facing more to the side.

She has a detached, polite smile. The kind you make when someone calls your name; you look over your shoulder but you don't quite recognize the person. She is looking and listening, trying to understand something. Or perhaps she is watching television, and does not fully comprehending what's going on. She's definitely not telling someone what to do.

Even old, a queen should look like she's on a mission. Focused, fierce and smart. A ruler should have eyes that see beyond the moment. Rulers don't smile.

Her face is too big while her neck is too short and fat which makes her look like an ordinary, elderly person.

Time to change.

I disagree with CC. I also collect portraits of QE2 on banknotes - 55 down, 750+ yo go ...

Most portraits of QE2 look quite severe, wereas the real QE2 has a sense of humour and smiles as often as the situation merits. At least the recent Canadian portrait has a smil. But, Generally, I'd like to see her crowned.

In my opinion, each Realm that uses portraits of QE2 ought to have their own, preferably done by an artist of that nation. The Commonwealth has evolved way beyond the time when we were colonies, emulating the Mother-Country.

Interesting to see how Canada and Australia had identical or similar portraits up until the last one.

Peter THOMAS portraits of the queen on banknotes interest me. Is there a database of all the portraits of her somewhere online? Perhaps in print even?

That seems to be happening with our coins. I think it has to be that way now. The colonial ties are history today.
