I didn't weigh it yet. I don't have a scale. I'll pick one up today.

Scales can be very important when you collect coins. A gram can make a big difference.

I know this nickle feels and sounds different. I even had my wife listen to it sound off the table compared to a regular nickle and she Say's the same thing that it has a different sound and feel.

Is that 4 grams or 4.0 grams? A scale that only weighs in whole gram increments is not accurate enough for coins, an accuracy of +/-0.1g or +/-0.01g is recommended.

So your telling me that this scale is no good for me to weigh coins on. Wow I didn't think collecting coins was going to be so difficult. Thanks by the way. What is a good scale to buy ?

It's not difficult, you've just got to get through the basics, the starting steps.Well, it could be an error coin anyway, if it showed 4g instead of 5g as it would lean more on 5g even if it was 0.5g underweight (4.5g = 5g with your scale).
For more details on the weight, ask for a scale to weigh jewelry (at Wal Mart or some place like that they should have one) because I think they must be more accurate in cases with diamonds or gold.

Oh, also smaller ones are usually the more accurate ones.

I hope your right about it being an erro. But I'll try Walmart for a scale. Now I have to have this nickle looked at to see the value. Thank you again.

Look for a seam down the side of the rim.

With regard to an economical scale, I use a MY WEIGH available from Brent-Krueger for less than 40 bucks. It is extremely versatile. It weighs in grams, ounces, troy ounces, and pennyweight. Accurate to within .1 of a gram. Been using it for years and it has been trouble free. Just a suggestion, not an ad.
