I'd sell them in larger lots if I were you, cladhunter. I sell copper pennies in 40-50lbs lots.

Yeah, once the interest in pre '81 nickles seemed to peak I found myself a nice big jar, I don't intend to go through them until I fill it right to the top.

I do save all nickels. Living in the US I've found a few Canadian including a 1929!

I wish I had the room to Hoard the copper and nickel. Well...I probably d have the room, but the wife would have my head in a jar if I did. :) She supports my coin roll hunting, metal detecting and collecting in general. She just does not want me to have a large sum of cash tied up in hoarding coinage. I have not sorted copper as of yet but I do sort nickel as I search but it usually ends up going back to the bank to avoid the hassle of ebay. Man I need to win the lotto soI could support my habit and hobby. LOL!

I think my wife would find a way to spend them. She understands that my collection has a special place but hoarding is to be done at the bank where the funds would be available if needed. :)

There seems to be a race between the RCM and hoarders to take them all out of circulation as quickly as possible.

I've been hoarding nickles for years and have multiples of almost all the years from 1922 on... except for key dates of course. I've been concentrating on learning about and cataloguing cents, quarters, halfs and silver dollars.
I haven't done much with nickles and a truckload of dimes as yet. Still learning about them. If there are any special ones I should be keeping an eye out for I'd appreciate a heads-up.

I hoard all the ones I find, and have done so for quite a while. Currently they are worth less than 2X face, but peaked at nearly 5X a few years back. I got pretty efficient at blowing through bank rolls, as I imagine many of you have. If you're buying at face, it's literally a zero-loss situation if you don't mind spending the time to search rolls.

I don't see where they are worth more than face so where and how would you liquidate them as nickle metal?

it is for the future. A nickel was worth in intrinsic value about 8 or 9 cents just a short time ago. If our economy degrades and fiat money is devalued or collapses the nickel could gain more in value and be used as real currency along with silver junk and any other silver or gold. Its kind of a basicaLly no risk investment. Pay face can keep or spend! It may or may not happen but like I said no risk to keep them. I was ther in the early 1960s as a small child and have the silver coins we kept! Look where that is

Ahh well...Looks like I'm off to the bank to exchange my box of nickels for another. No one in my area is hoarding nickels which includes me So I will be returning $38 in Nickel Nickels back into the wild. Ahh well...Just noticed it is 4pm so I guess I will have to wait till Tuesday to return them.
