Only the see through strip shrunk. the rest of the bill was still good. I thought maybe I would see lightning flashs from it, but nothing spectacular happened. Exchanged it at bank for a new one, the tellers had a laugh.

Nuke a 100 loonies along with the $100 bill and see if you get different results. Also, use the high setting.

I am not surprised about the humour. A shrunken mylar banknote DOES look comical!

If the note is still complete, and completely readable, there is no reason why a bank will not give you full value for it.

Most cash register operators however, would baulk when a shrunken banknote is tendered.
