Ebay Buyer Won't Pay-What To Do?

It's 4 days, not 7. 7 days is probably a better time period to wait, however.

At least he was honest and gave some kind of response. Most of the customers I've had where paying became an issue, I never hear anything from them at all, before, during, or after, the case is opened.

I only send an invoice right away if the transaction requires combined shipping on multiple auction wins. Other than that, the buyer can handle things just fine themselves. I send the invoice 24 hours later for all unpaid transactions as a very low key initial reminder to pay.

If I win an auctions for 1 item I don't need to be sent an invoice to pay 2 minutes after the auction ends...and get slightly annoyed when a seller does that. I go about my daily buying and pay it all at the end of the day.

Payment on ebay is the strangest thing. Some folks pay the minute the auction ends. Others wait a day or two. With some, it takes 4 or 5 days.

Just my experience.

Funny how fast most buyers pay once they see an ALERT on a case opened...scares the heck out of most of them, and they pay...with no possibility of sellers leaving negatives, this non-payment thing has increased 400% in 2 years...I make sure to say in my listing payment due within 3 days of auction end...99% go through fine, then, evry now and then, a slow payer....sometimes you just have to open a case...sometimes they don't respond, and, all you can really do is block them, and move on. Another trick is to make sure to have the "Pay Immedietly" on a BUY IT NOW, which forces payment.

So true.


I still have yet to hear a sound reasoning for why buyers can only receive positive feedback in ebay's change of policy. It makes no logical or practical sense what so ever to me. I saw no abuse of the system.

I do see abuse and feedback blackmail towards sellers of course. I've said it before and I'll say it again..there are many more terrible buyers on that site than sellers and the system is heavily favored towards buyers in every way.

Now if only somebody would actually look at my eCrater listings *snarl*, maybe my ebay protest would be successful.

More and more buyers are aware that ebay favors them in almost all disputes, so they've began to abuse it. And ebay knows sellers aren't going to leave their site, because there are basically no others, they'll keep catering to the buyers.

Would it be wrong to leave positive feedback such as: Great bidder - just doesn't pay.

no, it would be very fitting to leave that as feedback, but it wouldn't make much of a difference. I know I've never ever looked at a buyer's feedback unless I was involved in some sort of dispute. At that point it was too late as a warning. I probably wouldn't give them the extra point and just not leave any at all.

One issue for me was that I had won an auction on a Sunday evening. That evening I became sicker than the proverbial dog. I was flat on my back for the better part of seven days with the flu. I actually had to have an IV at the hospital to re-hydrate me. Well after day 8 I started feeling better and fired up my laptop from the bed. There were three messages from the seller that I had purchased a coin from. First one was real nasty about me not paying
on time and that he would leave negative feedback, second said that he reviewed my feedback and found that I always pay after the auction ended and would wait a few more days.
The third one asked anybody that was reading the message if I was still alive <I chuckled on that one>, I responded back that I had been sick and apologized and had just paid
for the auction. He completely understoon and we have since made many many deals on E-Bay. A little patients goes along ways sometimes.

I ask that items are paid for within 3 days of listing ending and after 7 days if it is still not paid for I write a note to tell them that unpaid item claim will be started. If buyer contacts me and asks for extra time to pay I always allow for more time that is no problem at least they are communicating with me. 99.5 percent of time coins are paid for within 3 days only had to file 2 claims so far since opening my store and those people would not even answer e-mails from me.

As I mentioned once earlier, I had a buyer who won an auction and apparently died the very next day before paying. A slightly sobbing relative told me this over the phone and I believe it to be true. So, it might not be as off the wall as you'd think.

I have never sold anything onn the Bay but have bought over 12K of stuff, mostly coins there, so my comments are from the buyer POV.

When I first started, I was on a dial-up connection that often got dropped, so going through the loops to pay via paypal was a challenge. I am also more of an early AM person, so I generaly do my paying before the sun comes up. The dial up connections were cleaner then.
And since I often go to bed early, auctions end and I win bids while I sleep. Sometimes I forget about bids being placed and can go 2-3 days without checking emails, or might be traveling in places where I have no connection.

I don't think I have ever gone more than 4 days without paying, but did get a reminder once at 4 days for an item. I had been very busy and forgot about it and was thankful for the reminder and paid right away with an apology to the seller.

From conversations with other buyers, I think some of them go on a bidding spree while under the influence and then have to decide later whether to renege or pay up.

If they don't pay give then 7 days and tell them you are relisting the item.
If they don't email back within 24hrs I do just that and put the buyer on my blocked bidders list, That way they are unable to mess you around in future.
I don't bother with opening a case with ebay, It is a pain in the butt and quite frankly I realy couldn't be bothered with the process.
Unpaid bids are verry rare and seldome happen to me so I don't find it a real issue.

Report them to ebay and slam them on the feedback!
