I don't think that half dollar is attractive at all...

What half dollar? Am I missing something? All I see is a five dollar and a dollar.

Well they don't strike me as beautiful but they have done a lot worse. At least on these coins they got the number of stripes on the flag right (They didn't on the Fort McHenry ATB Quarter designs. The designs show 13 stripes.)

Yeah I don't think they are doing a half dollar with this commemorative coin series. I don't know what reasoning they use when they do some commems with half dollars and others without half dollars. I think the commem coin with the Generals in 2013 will include a half dollar.

I think that with the coins minted today our technology is making our designs too detailed and they are trying too hard to make the designs symbolic
eagles, lady liberty, and the bare minimum of words is what I like
-seriously is that shading on the sails of the boat
-it looks like someone used a sharpie and wrote on the second coin
-the third coin is alright but it looks crammed and like the had to force in the words around the design
-and the 4th one is just a bad design I think
out of all 4 I would take the 3rd or 4th one If I had to buy one

First pic is obverse of five dollar gold, second pic is the reverse.
Third pic is obverse of dollar, fourth is reverse.

I am not really loving the gold designs, but I think the dollar is going to be really nice. It's hard to picture it from the drawings, but I think I'm goin to pick one up. Nothing against military themes, but I'm glad they're mixing it up.

I won't be buying the $5 gold coin, I'd rather have a GAE. But I will definitely pick up the $1 coins in proof and uncirculated.

I will probably go for the $1, but I won't turn any of them away if given as a present!

If I were to buy gold, that's what I'd be doing, buying gold. I don't care what shape it is in, but I won't pay a premium because it's shaped in a coin. It's still, just gold. Was going to start collecting the ASEs but with what the Mint did with the San Fransisco mintmark, that changed my mind.

These should be the "War of 1812 Bicentennial" coins since they are dated 2012 and the Five references 1812 - 2012. The flag that became the Star Spangled Banner didn't even exist yet, and the poem wouldn't be written for two more years. If you do want to reference the flag it's the 198th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner and I hate all these odd anniversaries we have been celebrating for the military. The 38th anniversary for the Korean War made a little sense but most of the others are silly.

I never know how I truly feel until I see the designs on a struck coin. The artwork is always deceiving to my eyes.
