AU-58. Unc for detail, very mildly wiped, net graded to 58.

Pretty wide range of grades: AU-55 to MS-64. The verdict is ...

I really like that one as a 55. A strong and appealing 55 it is!

Netted down for the mild wipe/dip I think. No way its 55 for detail IMO.

Looking at the reverse, I see zero wear. The only spots I see on the obverse that are possible are the hair, the breast, and the leg. But combined with the lack of wear on the reverse, I dont see how it went that low. I would have guessed the spots on the obverse were just strike issues.
If you paid AU-55 money for this coin, you got a GREAT deal. I would expect it to go for MS62/63 money.

With the coin in hand, I think PCGS had it right by calling it a AU. The luster in the fields is a bit disturbed but I was unable to capture that in the photos. Also if you look carefully at Liberty's right breast and knee, you will see that area is a bit flat and duller than the surround areas. Both of which are signs of wear.

boo hiss, pcghisss
I dont agree.
:)
Given the variance in value between AU55 and MS60 and up, I'd be tempted to get a second qualified opinion.
The more radically higher the value is at higher grades, the tougher grading services are.
PCGS 1859-O AU55: $300 MS60: $525 MS63: $2050
Numismedia 1859-O AU55: $230 AU58: $420 MS60: $510

Kind of what I thought, as one needs to have a coin like this in hand to properly grade it. A super coin no doubt even in AU.

I came late to this thread, but I was thinking it was an MS coin when I first saw the picture. That coin has great eye appeal and probably looks a lot better than many graded MS coins out there.
