yep...I now think it is a 'partial straight collar' after reading that article. are they rare? and what would its value be? I think it would be around'fine'

I'm having second thoughts now about this coin, because the milling can be seen above the plain ring in places , like it is under the the part with no milling (hope you understand all that!). On the obverse, I can see milling on the inner ring .... but the milling on the outer ring is on the roo side (half depth)  Edited by larena

I'm not sure what causes those marks, I have seen them on a lot of $1 & $2 coins, but regardless of that, you do have what appears to be a genuine error coin.  A partial straight collar, and it's a good find. They're pretty hard to find, not impossible, but not exactly common.  life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

Depending on overall condition maybe $10 -$20. You will need to be able to show a nice clear photo of the coin's edge though.

Having trouble taking pic of edge...will experiment with camera. Think I will be hanging onto it at that value....love it more than $20  |

I think I have 2 Partial collar error coins, 1 x $1 and 1 X 5c and there's no way I'd part with them. I find them. I keep them. They're my babies!  life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

It is a nice example of a tilted partial collar.
The first one I ever found was a 2004 too. I found it in a pokie at Burswood casino in Perth and like you, for a brief moment, thought I'd found a mule.

Definitely a partial collar error. The blank wasn't completely dropped into position. Dunno the market for oz errors, but 10-20 sound reasonable to low.

still on about this one. I can understand the partial collar error...but what about the off-centre strike ?
