Glad it worked out for you. I bought a nice Liberty nickel the other day for half of what it should sell for because it had PVC on it. I simply put it in acetone and sure enough the PVC is gone and my coin doubled in value!

See all the green up near the denticles? That wasn't there before, and I know where it came from. I didn't rinse this coin before shooting it.

Did you give it a flowing rinse with fresh acetone before you let it dry?

Nice conservation Dave!

quite possibly the only liquid more dangerous than acetone is nitroglycerin.

Ahhhh...that's not even close to being true. You're blowing that WAY out of proportion. Other than flammability, acetone is a very safe solvent. Your body even natually produces acetone. Millions of chemists like myself work with acetone on a daily basis because it is safe and effective.

I did not even notice the top of the "thunder box". I was too distracted by the blue "Coca-Cola" (?) glass.

Great results Dave and thanks for the step by step. I've only tried acetone a couple of times and it evaporated so quickly. OK, I learned something!

Excellent results.

I know we do not do stickies. But if we did, this would qualify.

But wait. What's that spot by the you in UNUM?

I believe that was actually the "PLURIBUS" variety of green spotting...but I'm sure it would have worked on UNUM as well...had the spot been there...

Is there a squeeze bottle that will work with acetone? I'll bet a pinpoint spray would remove loose stuff.

Well, I'm not done yet. After the scare on the obverse, I started looking at the coin under significant magnification, and I've found little spots all over it. Still. This is worse than I thought.
