One of the nicer things about any type set is it takes your mind off of many other collections. For example trying to complete a Large Cent Album plus several other Albums. So instead you concentrate on just one thing. Or so it appears.

$6000 for all the gold coins. The $20 Gold pieces (double eagles) were between $1700-1800 apiece and the rest were basically fractions of that amount ($900 for each Eagle, $450-500 for each half eagle, etc.)

as was offered in a previous post, if you need nice type coins, I would highly recom coinguybrian (AKA shadowcreator). I have purchased (or traded) a few times with him and his coins are always great and he seems to have grades that really fit. Ok back to your regular chat...

Very cool info. Like I said, I have many needed coins already. This is going to quite an endeavor. I have various grades and will upgrade later if I decide that. I do have two Half Eagles but will probably not throw the 1844-D in there.

the gold coins in my album were the first holes I filled and when I got the 20.00 gold coins they were like 600 bucks a piece and the St Gaudens was graded MS-62 by PCGS so I got lucky compared to todays prices on the Gold coins

That's really up to you, Mike! First, though, you need to decide if you want to fill the holes as quickly as possible and worry about upgrading when you have more money, or whether you want to hold off and get the best quality coins up front. If the former, you can start filling the modern slots with pocket change and work your way backwards.

Most collectors probably start with the cheaper coins and work their way up the more expensive ones (like the early Large Cents and Seated Liberty dollars), but there's no reason why you couldn't go after the more expensive coins first if you have the budget for it. One advantage of going for the cheaper coins first, though, is that you are less likely to make a costly mistake if you are just starting out in the field -- you may want to wait until you have more expertise before plopping down $300 or more for a single coin.

I had alot of the coins already when I got my 7070 Album. Still need all of the Dollar coins to finish
it (no gold though). It is fun to chase/hunt the coin you need to fill a slot...

Good Luck.

The 7070 is fun, challenging and frustrating all at the same time.

I don't even want to think about the gold page.

The thing that confused me about the 7070 is why didnt they include the variety 1 of thecapped bust dime since they did it with the buffalo and the SLQ why not one more hole to fill?

Yeah. Another head scratcher is why they didn't include the "arrows and rays" variety of the various Seated Liberty coins.

Rumor has it that the 7070 is being "re-thought out" by adding some of the newer varieties, and hopefully adding the some overlooked varieties of the classics.

I like my version of the "7070 type set"...slab version, and I can put whatever I want into it, not taking any of the originals out, but putting some of the additional types in; Arrows and Rays, designer initials added Jefferson (1966 and later), Clad and 40% Ikes as a few examples.

I'm doing the same thing with my virtual 7070 album. The advantage is that I can look at all my coins without having to take them out of the safe...

I am building a cabinet that houses coin trays and will be doin my own "7070 type" collection, all in capsules so I can pull them out and play with them whenever I want. Security-wise my house is very secure so I am not so much worried about keeping them in a safe as the room they are in is almost a safe itself. I also want to do a Capital Plastics 19th & 20th century display as well. Albums are nice, but I want to have the flexibility to add variant and hold each coin individually and still have them protected.
