#1. 1910 Lincoln, quite possibly the finest coin I've ever had under the lens:

I missed yesterday, so here are my top two in one post. Submitting with crossed fingers in hope that the mods won't see fit to delete my 'crossed tusks' coin in a fit of twisted modly wisdom. Quote: "The variety and beauty of your unique silver pieces have opened my eyes to coins minted outside the US."
Oh noes! More competition! Seriously, muddler, I am happy to oblige. Thank you for this thread; there are not that many good opportunities to show off the stuff I am most fond of. The 'dark side' is a HUGE realm of underappreciated numismatic art. USA gets boring! And there is nothing affordable prior to the nineteenth century. Quote: "I know after this thread I will be picking up some coins from other countries ...." GR58, here are two great ones to start with, IF you can find them-! My #2 choice, from Nicaragua, is another one year type; mintage= 35,000; size= 38mm. (Someone on the CCF forums is using the reverse of this coin, or a very similar issue, for their avatar.) And for number one, we have.. Rare Art On A Coin ! A 40mm 1970 low mintage silver proof from 'Ecuatorial' Guinea, featuring Goya's controversial masterpiece. What's not to love? If this specimen does not open your jaded numismatic eyes to the possibilities awaiting a journey to lands beyond our own, I'm afraid you might be better suited to collecting beanie babies or salt&pepper shakers or -ack- those dull ubiquitous coppers that have such an obsessive following. No offense to those who adore 'em, but as for me, if I've seen one S-VDB, I have seen them all. That's all, folks.. hope you have enjoyed the show.

Quote: GR58- That Kennedy really pops! Wow! Rayman ... thank .. I like it very much, I bought a special box to keep it in today. And that 1909 S VDB of yours pops pretty good too Quote: if I've seen one S-VDB, I have seen them all I understand liking world coins, but for me the 1909 S vdb was a coin that I wanted since I was a young boy ... it took me over 40 years to purchase one .. it is a special coin to me. SuperDave ... your pictures of that 1910 Lincoln .. WOW! Muddler .. a 1oz proof .. very very nice 10Xloupe ... a quarter on a cent planchet ... I think we would all like to have one of those

Well we had so much fun with the twentieth century, what do you folks think of a thread for the 19th century with the same parameters, any coin, any country, just 1800 to 1899?

Awesome show ... Thanks, I'm quite glad that I got to be part of it => hey, let's try and do it again in 6 months or so from now (hopefully, I will have gathered-up a few more bobbles to display by then!) => that was a good time and very entertaining (good idea, muddler) Cheers

That would be great to do coins from 19th century, it's my area of preference! Looking forward to the beauties that will come up there...

GR58: Those are fine choices! I hope you are getting them for a good price. Keep in mind that the most frequently seen coins in those mixed silver bins will be stuff from the 1940's carried home by wartime service folks. Thus very common, and should be purchased with an eye for problem free, high quality. Quote: "any coin, any country, just 1800 to 1899?" Please don't make it another 'top twelve' or 'top' anything; it's just too hard to choose an order. Best order i-m-o would be one day for each year, like Moe's threads. I like the idea but it takes sooo much time to do all the photo taking, so my participation might be spotty. I'm pretty sure I have at least one coin for every year of that century. Few, however, are photographed.

I just wanted to get a few today, so I picked out those six for $37.00 I think that is below silver, but will have to do the math on them. As for a thread for 19th century .. I might have to buy a few more to have some favorites ... that I have not posted There is that coin show I am going to tomorrow
