Don't begin to even think you know me. The trouble with some of you OLD collectors, is you think you know everything. You think you've been around long enough, seen it all, know how everything works, know how it should be, and know how the hobby will evolve. At least that's the sense I get from most of the large cent "congregation" as you call it. What's the average age of this cult, 75? Everything changes, and variety collecting may evolve in ways you can't even fathom. In ways, your mind can't even comprehend. You can keep resisting change, but you can't stop it. I "derive pleasure from this hobby" by thinking outside the little box you have imprisoned your minds in. By bending, even breaking the status quo... "trying to sell at inflated prices"...I can buy your entire congregation for about 2 months pay. All I have to do is wait for your grandchildren to sell you out - which they will. Money is not an issue, though you keep throwing it at me, because you are short on legit arguments. As I said, the hobby will evolve, and it'll eventually evolve without you and your friends. Keep shunning the new blood and new energy flowing into it. Keep ridiculing new ideas. Keep ridiculing people you dont know. Your world view is arcane and obsolete. And none of it matters. I'll be around a lot longer than most of you. And I will either be an agent of change, or I will enjoy the changes that are brought about by others. You better start getting used to it.

Personally I think you're trolling, efforts to engage in actual polite discussion have failed. Quote: danlos9551- SPP..that's exactly the kind of rant I wanted to evoke...so thanks . When you go out of your way to torment others as you admitted, that makes you a troll. I'm not sure what pleasure you get from the exercise because the topic itself is interesting enough without the drama.

SPP, your efforts to explain things to a troll have failed. Your expertise is unquestionable. Again, as we have discussed off this forum, a few attempt to mislead novice collectors for gain, not education. The differance between a buyer of coins and a collector is easy to see. Too funny!

We do need a heated discussion from time to time. Highly entertaining.

Someone say troll One thing olde phartz can offer is an overview only gained by watching the hobby over time. For example, we know that "Is it in the book?" is a major factor in price. One old-time dealer had a standard: will it fit in a 2x2?

There has only been 1 time where I think the money I spent on a numismatic book would have been better spent elsewhere. That's the one.

Quote: If you guys cannot play nice, you will need to find a new home. I post here, to provide assistance to novice collectors, to share my experience in Canadian and NFLD numismatics and to deflect the manure that new collectors can be bombarded with. My posts are based on fact (usually published information) and about 10 years of experience in Canadian numismatics and, most importantly, from knowledge shared from some very good numismatists that I am proud to call friends. My name is in the front of the Charlton Catalogue for a very good reason, and I have pubished numismatic papers on various topics - I don't need these insults from internet trolls who think that money can buy it all. I don't think or try to pretend that I know everything, but I try my best to pass along information that currently exists, and is accepted, in the literature, and I try to share new discoveries. The key dates involved in this discussion have been published in the CN Bulletin (the precursor to the CN Journal) since the early 1950s; coins with a history will always have a history and prices reflect that. No one can predict the future of Canadian numismatics, we can only look to our past... The last tirade of insults, completely off-topic from the questions being addressed, has me second guessing if there are better things I can do with my time. Trust me, when it comes to Canadian coin forums, this one is definitely not 'home'. I think it is time to stop reaching out, and stick to the site I do call 'home'. It has been a slice, and if any of you have questions, I think you are in good hands with Dan-in-Crystal_Lake, pginrh, Ugly, t_y, nickelsguy and several other people with far more time and experience in this hobby than I. My offer will always still stand to purchase your Canadian counterfeits for research and education purposes, and the offer is there to zap those mystery planchets and coins with the XRF in my lab. Just ask any of the names aforementioned for my contact information.

SPP...you have my admiration for your considerable knowledge and your willingness to share it. Thank you. If people like yourself are replaced on this board by those less informed and with less repute then I will follow your footsteps to other internet dwellings. I hope not to lose this site but I visit here with the hope to trust and learn from the educated and sage opinions of individuals like yourself and others you mention. Caveat lector. My Two Cents.

SPP... you and others have always offered honest and blunt responses to many of my questions here. As a novice collector, I appreciate the time and efforts of those that have experience and knowledge, and that definitely includes you.
From time to time many of us enjoy to share new discoveries, and then learn that it has been discussed in previous topics and threads. Chalk that up to learning... again, please continue to offer hints and nudges to keep the hobby enjoyable.
