Most banks won't take coins. Cents will fool the coin sorters at TD banks machines but the other coins get rejected.
I'd call something like the Casino and see if they'll take them. If I were feeling generous and I often am I'd just give them a local charity that would be glad to take them. I'm pretty sure any charity in a norther border state especially would smile.
Otherwise, send them to me and I'll deposit them and give you US at whatever the bank gives me for exchange. You'd be out the shipping and that's it. It's what 100 bucks? Should fit in a flat rate box.

I live in Charlotte, N.C. and would love to have them. I have a Flea Market spot near Carowinds for the Last 10 years. Do you have any currency.

Thanks for all of the responses. I did cash in my Canadian cents, since the coin counters take them.
A medium priority box (max weight 20 pounds) would cost me $27.95 to mail to Canada. A little more than I was expecting. I was hoping someone near the Canada border in the USA would be able to cash them, since it would only cost $10.95 to mail it.
Exchange rate is almost even too.
But if you cashed them at a Canadian bank, could you get US notes?

Yeah most bank branches carry US currency for exchange for travelling and the like. The credit unions usually have to order it up here but getting a a few hundred US in twenties isn't usually too bad an affair. At the airport international terminal, you can get US funds from the bank machine before you head out.
Had no idea it was so expensive to mail, typically I can send 10-15lbs for under twenty bucks down south.

With a little thinking "outside the box," Canadian coins are an easy sell here in PA. I am within distance that a larger amount to exchange can be worth the trip up to the NY/Can border. But even this can be a pain to say the least. Most banks will trade currency in, but several will not accept coins ... including $1 & $2 coins. And the fee they charge can be a bit excessive to say the least. Simple solution here was previously mentioned, but the best way I've found and well worth a second mention .... the casino! Casino Niagra has taken my cents through $2 for years now in any amount. But for smaller amounts ($100 or less) I've found it to be much easier to find someone traveling to Canada who can use it while there, or the way I have been most successful, to the Canadian truck drivers who are only only in the states for a day or two. I am rarely turned down when the offer of .90 on the $1 is mentioned ... although a few have asked "Are they counterfeits?" lol!
Now if I could only find an easy way (and profitable) to turn in all these Euros, Pounds, Pesos, Yens, ect ...

I've seen people sell stuff like this on ebay and pay over face value for the lot, plus they pay shipping. If you kept the pennies in it you might have seen more action as our penny is withdrawing next month out of circulation. |

The casinos in Upper Michigan will do currency exhanges. I exchanged a bunch of loonie and toonies for US dollars. I have not tried it in Michigan's lower peninsula though.

Another place to consider when wanting to exchange money is a local international airport. I work at the USO in the Charlotte airport - there is a currency exchange there since it is an international airport.

I sold canadian change on ebay for double face. Not sure why it sold so well, I stated "no silver"... |

I know this is a long time from the origional post on coin community but I just sent Canadian coins to HYPoint Canadian Exchange (www.canadiancoinexchange.com) I used a USPS "if it fits it ships box. Received USD with in 3 days. Also euro coin exchange will change out her european currencies.

Only Federal Reserve Banks have to exchange foreign money. Most very large towns and cities have a Federal Reserve Bank nearby. Regular banks don't want it, nor do they need to take it.

Canadian banks will take US change, but they do not buy it at an exchange rate as they would with US notes. edit - I suppose you could buy US cash, but $100 worth of US change would convert to $100 CAD in bills, which could then buy about $74 worth of US paper money.
