Thanks, I plan on taking it slow and getting the best coins I can find. Being new I am sure I will make a few mistakes but hopefully not bad ones.

Thanks. Coinstar, I am doing this collection "sans album". I am building a cabinet to house felt lined trays in and plan on putting all of the pennies into capsules and keeping them in the trays. I have a couple albums but I really want to make my collection stand out so I figure this would do it. That way I can pick out whichever specimen I feel like examining at any time I like without fear of finger prints or scratches.
I also have two drawers in it I am goin to be using to house my prestige, anneversary, premier, and legacy sets in and another drawer to hold my proof set boxes and COAs in. Maybe a little overboard but I have to try and enjoy life where I can.

Cutting felt with scissors is a pain. The best way to keep it from stretching is to take a pane of glass on a table, lay out the felt, cut with a sharp knife (xacto) against a metal straight edge, pressing down as you go. No stretching!

Thanks Biggfredd, I hadn't thought of that. I just happen to have a huge piece of glass from a display cabinet I dismantled that I can use for that.
I am going to use pegboard for the tray bottoms as it is rather inert and will allow the whole thing to breath well. I thought about using a spray adhesive to apply the felt but I am not sure how safe that would be. The felt lining in my safe is attached that way so maybe it would be ok.

I'm almost finished with my Lincoln set. I hit the flea market yesterday, and found 4 more semi-keys. I was about to walk away, but then the dealer gave me half off one. I got a 10S, 11S, 13S, and 24S for less than $60. I couldn't pass that up.

Sort of sounds like your anti Album. Why not just put them in an Album and be able to see any you want by just turning a page? And easy to change coin anytime by simply moving a plastic slide. Your off to a great start and getting those with low mintages while still available is sort of smart. I still like Albums over cabinets, drawers, plastic display cases, etc. But that is part of coin collecting when you can and do what you want.

I have a few albums me and my kids fill but I'm just not big on them. Everything I got is now being put into Kointain capsules and in the trays I can expand, move, reorganize, open, play with, and show off when and how I want. A year from now I may have them all in albums, who knows. But with what I am building (halfway done with) I can display raw coins, slabbed coins, or mint lenses all in one spot.

Good Luck DM1975, with your collection,
I would love to see your cabinet when you're done.
But I'm a Dansco Album man all the way, soo easy to store, see both sides of the coin, change coins in and out etc.
