Heritage Auctions is a good place. Don't forget they add in 15% for a Buyer's Premium plus shipping. You can join for free and there's a wealth of info there.

I also like Northeast Numismatics. Many of their coins allow you to submit an online "offer" and they can counter-offer or accept your price.

Thats a good list Fuzzy, except for Littleton Coin. They are the worst...prices too high and they treat customers bad.Just my opinion of course.

http://www.proxibid.com.

Some auctions charge up to 20% premium, and so-called coin auctions are heavy on gold and silver bullion. I have found some real bargains in some of the auctions, however.

I'll go with Heritage Auctions as well. I'll calculate my bids with the premium included.

I have purchased a couple of coins from Littleton Coin without problems, but I agree some of their prices are high.

Thanks for the list Fuzzy317. It's always nice to have recommendations for people who have used those sites.

Do the on-line auctions operate similar to e-bay?

The official U.S. mint website has a long list of stores that are approved coin dealers of some U.S coins. Go to http://www.usmint.gov/bullionretailer to check this out. The website only says information about the actual walk-in store, although I find most of those stores have good websites.

Personally I buy bullion coins with Blanchard ( http://www.blanchardonline.com/ ), which has a nice website and good customer service.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Just trying to see what my options are. I will take a look at some of these and see if they are worth buying from.

Proxibid auctions are always "real-time" auctions, often with onsite bidders to compete against. Some run streaming audio and video, which of course lags a few seconds behind the onsite action. You can register a credit or debit card once with Proxibid, although some auction companies will discount the final price if you send a personal check as payment.

You may want to check out TeleTrade. They do charge an $8 buyer fee, but you can find some real deals there if you pay attention.

Personally, I list and have bought a few coins through Webstore.

I think a search on the search tab for that company would give some interesting results. I just got one of their Albums and they sure are not what I'd want except was free.

Thanks for that link. I know many here hate replicas, copies, fakes, etc. but to fill a slot in and Album that is impossible to ever get, I'll try them.
