That's a beautiful coin Jeff! I've studied this coin extensively Mike and have pondered the damage too. These early Half Dimes are paper thin so it could have easily been stepped on by a hoof or carriage wheel, who knows! What amazes me the most is this could have been in George Washington's hand at one time. Thanks for the nice comments everyone!

Fabulous two coins shown (so far) ... alas I have no coins to add to the discussion. Dave ... great thoughts on how your Half Dime came to be what it is today ... the stories that coin could tell. Jeff ... outstanding example ... another feather in your cap IMHO as a contributor to our collective joy at the CCF. I value and appreciate the joy of holding in my hands a classic coin in honestly circulated condition ... wondering about the twists of fate that led the coin to it's current condition ... and imagining the history that the coin has experienced. Suppose that is the reason I am pursuing the maybe impossible quest of a complete cirulated US classic silver commemorative 50-coin type set ... Hoping to see some more lovely Flowing Hair examples. I want to participate in this thread but I have none to share. Great coins vermontensium and jeffrose! Just seeing those is almost as good as being able to own one.

About the eagle: A few months ago there was a dime being auctioned. I looked at the eagle and thought, "This is not the regal eagle, sitting on a branch, of the later issues. THIS eagle says: "Are you talking to me? Are YOU talking to ME?" What a delightful way we told Great Britain to go ... " When the bidding got too high I took my leave. But I would have given a home to an AG dime with such a noble history. And no, like many others I can only dream ... Matthew

Thanks Matthew! I prefer the Small Eagle to the Heraldic Eagle. Something crude and authentic about it. Those are my only words.
