$2 a roll would be very reasonable for wheaties but $2 a coin for a random date is outrageous

But, but, but... they're RARE! I mean, how often do you find them in pocket change? Therefore they must be extremely valuable, regardless of how many millions were minted or are still in existence, right?

I'm joking, of course, but it's all about perception. Some people will pay a premium for something they want and can't find easily, regardless of the "true" value. It's why people can sell Eisenhower dollars, SBA dollars and bicentennial coins at 2-3 times face value. And it's why I paid $0.75 for each of the last 5 State Quarters my son needed to finish his album before the school year ended last year.

I agree that $2 per coin is ridiculous for common wheat cents, but if somebody is willing to pay that amount then that is exactly what they are worth.

He doesn't really want to sell them. Ask him what his buy price is.

Based on those standards of customer ethics ... I would stay away from anything this 'dealer' has to offer.

These are worth 3 cents to 4 cents each ... no more IMHO.

Considering I just bought 10 rolls for $5.47, I say $2 per coin is rather high.

it might be worth your time to look through at least one jar.

My coin dealer had the same thing, 5 jars of wheats. He did however only charge 5cents each, but still let me look through them for as long as I wanted. I went through every penny and I ended up finding a 1922D, a 1912D, and a 1909VDB. Wasn't a bad score for 15cents. My dealer mostly deals in silver and gold coinage, so he bought the collection of wheat pennies and doesn't have time to search through them.

I just like looking though the pennies. If you don't find anything you like, then don't buy anything, but you just might end up finding something worth that $2.

I can't stop thinking about this crazy guy. On the one hand, it's like roll searching without having to front the money or find a dump bank or worry about getting shorted on the buy/sell, plus every dern penny is a wheat. On the other hand, when you find a coin worth $1.99 you still gotta catch and release cause it's not worth it.
