I have never used ebay. Tried 1lb at a time on kijiji, no interest. Had luck with other coins to locals.

Well those just go right back to the bank, with a note on the roll saying they are pure nickel. Hopefully the RCM will get them and melt them down and get them out of circulation. Make the old nickels more rare and the price may go up by the time I am a great grandfather. :)

With 300 of them, you have about $15 worth assuming you got them at face value. If you don't need the money right away, why not just hold on to them for now? There is another site where there are alot of hardcore copper and nickel hoarders that I am sure would be interested if you really want to move them and get a decent price without taking on the risks/fees of ebay. PM if you want the site.

I agree with keeping them. If you want to get rid of them, sale them on ebay by the roll.

When my father started setting aside dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollar coins in the late fifties eairly sixties they were worth 10 cents, 25 cents, fifty cents and a dollar. All silver coins. Just a thought.

I am aiming for 50 rolls of nickel. I am at 17 rolls acquired at face value. Kitco shows 5 years ago a recorded high of $24.23 per pound of nickel.

It's fair to say that collecting silver in the 60s is similar to collecting nickel in now, the value of a silver dollar was around $1.50 then.
I think that the realistic probability of a major return on investment is very different, however, as nickel is much more abundant.
With that said, it's all speculation and good luck! For me, I'll take my nickel, convert it to silver or cards or collectables and back to cash repeatedly over the next few years instead of looking at copper and nickel hordes :)
If I ever want to get serious I'll invest in stocks or other certified investments.

A friend of mine is hoarding nickel so, I sold him my 60 rolls I figured it's better for him to have them, than me.

I would keep them for now. No cost to find a corner to hide them in!

I've only found two since the time I started to collect coins.

I found lately that pure nickel 5ยข are lot more scarce than last summer, finding one every two weeks. But last week I've got ten rolls from the bank and found 86 pre 1982 nickels. More than 20%, I liked it.

I am over the half way point to the 50 roll goal. 28 rolls of nickels 55-81. I am buying rolls and finding lots. Found lots of rolls missing one or two but also found lots of rolls with dimes shoved in..

One roll of junk nickels has the melt value of $3.20. Should I sell them to a local dealer?

If you do sell let us know what you get. The coin hunter mentioned he knew nickel hoarders. The only offers I have had are for trades.
