The best way to pick an altered date is to superimpose an image of the date area of a known genuine coin over the same area of the coin in question.

First item ever sold on ebay, I wouldn't pay $5 for this item.

Definitely a FAKE ! IMO, The main reason I put it up is to see how many others could pick it. I have half a dozen of real ones & none are anything like the fake in the date, the 1,9,2 & 5 are wrong & the 1 is the wrong angle & points at the denticle insted of between like the real ones.Check MobOfRoo's pic.

I don't think it is cleaned. It looks spray painted. I didn't want to shoot it down immediately in case you had purchased it but it is definitely not genuine for all the reasons pointed put.

It is a chinese import with a little bit of wear/weathering.
Look at where the 5 is...how low can you go?

The thing that really gets me is that the listing is very carefully worded so that he never actually claims that it is a genuine 1925 Australian Penny. This seller is being deceitful and knows that he is trying to sell a fake. Quote: ONE PENNY 1925 RARE DATE. notice how he doesn't use the word "Australian". Quote: I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE CONDITION IS A GOOD EF TO aUNC AND COULD BE WORTH THOUSANDS. once again being evasive. A genuine seller of such an item wouldn't need to imply hearsay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...170775757940Someone has bid on this, only have feedback of 22. & this is what really peeves me,another young collector is going to get ripped off & when they find out they have been ripped they will be very disheartened with collecting.

I agree Belly. ebay will not pull that auction,we've been reporting this type of carp for years & your lucky to get 10% removed. But at least ebay can't pull these posts like they were over there & at least a fair percentage get warned.

There is an ebay violations reporting section here on the CCF site. It has been used to good effect on many an occasion
