TLS is correct. Run in, run out. Pick up a small safe if it's not bolted down. There really is no defense against a skilled burglar.

Jim:
I like the Roosevelt's quote even more... How true!
It's OK that everyone doesn't share all our interests... Their loss.
I have many friends with very different interests...
I don't care what it is, but they have to get excited about something or I don't find them interesting.

Morganman is right. (though police should pick up on that connection quickly - if it is a priority)
It never ceases to amaze me how hard some people will work to keep from working...
Since the possiblity of theft is a fact of life, there is no need to be paranoid.
We are either prepared or we are not.

Numismatics is a hobby, something done for pleasure. If collecting coins causes this much stress and paranoia, take up crocheting or basket-weaving. Get insurance on the coins. Buy a safe. And enjoy the coins.

I stumbled upon a deal for this one at the local wal mart,, had a little inside info !! My wife works at the store, they were getting new ones and these were on their way to the dumpster if you can believe that ?
it took two men and a boy to get it into the house .
Just where others can be found ? I wish I knew I would jump on it in a heart beat .

Metalman, we probably could not afford them new, but maybe we cannot afford not to. Do you think your wife could ask where they get them new? Hopefully the price is not too bad. Jim

Paranoia can be a problem so... How do you tell if your being targeted by a burgular?
Post your neighbours address on the net and wait to see the police cars roll up to their address because of a break in. LOL

I have a slight advantage in that I have two houses. My main residence is where I store most of my coins. This address never gets given out event to forum members My secondary residence is rented to the company I work for as a staff house and there is some one there 24/7 this is the address I use for all my transactions. Even so most of my valuable coins stay in a safety deposit box in a bank vault. The slightly less valuable ones live in a converted closet in my house. I bricked in the internal walls and borrowed a steel door of one of the ships my company scrapped. A determined person could cut through the door with an acetylene torch or spend a fair amount of time with a sledge hammer on the walls. Either way they would have had their picture taken by several hidden cameras and hopefully the security system would have informed the local Police. The two occasions I forgot to disarm the security system before entering the house the local police took less than 10 mins to have a patrol car round to check on the house. There are advantages to working in a high tech industry in that I have access to hardware at little or no cost but I am still paranoid when it comes to my coins..... There are just too many people who know I collect coins and think they know where I live. The kind of person I usually get work with will probably have one or more felony's in their belt. Offshore work tends to attract the wrong kind of people especially third world country work.

Toast, unfortunately you probably won't know if you are being targeted if the crook has any sense. Or, you are not even targeted, just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I had a friend robbed outside of a convenience store not that long ago, and the guy who did it stated he was coming out as I was going by. My friend was in an army uniform and even the idea that he might be able to take care of himself did not stop him. Jim

Hi Jim I will see if she can ask where they purchase them,, Iam really pleased with this one ,, but your right the cost maybe fairly prohibitive new . While were waiting for that answer ,, here is a place that you can look over ,, their prices do not seem bad and they have a safe for just about any application. http://www.securitybase.com/Web_sto...51&ns=Y&dci=Metalman
