I have bought stuff through Delcampe, so far mainly old postcards. My transactions have always been well handled.

How about the "sell it Now" option? What kind of luck have people had with this option?

Re Delcampe: I'm not really a happy ‘delcamper.' While the site provides potential customers... and I've made some sales using the site... their customer service is non-existent and you end up dealing with people who are similar to bureaucrats when trying to get them to solve problems. My experiences related to a number of sales that fell through in the end. Delcampe still collected their commission fees and was extremely reluctant to refund what they had charged me... and in fact never did in the end. Needless to say I don't care for nickle n' dime operators and don't do business with them anymore.

When I sell on ebay I only do "buy it nows". The fee's are abit higher but at the end of the day you get what you want. Personally I don't like the idea of selling something and not fully knowing what it will go for. I've done auctions a couple of times and have taken a bath on some items in the past. From most of my experiences there is alot of shill bidding on ebay -- so beware if you go down this road. I know this will be abit off topic, and I don't wish to offend anyone but... Really wish the buy & selling rules on this site were abit more relaxed. For someone who wants to sell some items (like the OP) its pretty hard to NOT use ebay. I like reading the posts but really have not much more to offer than most of the members who post often so my # of posts here are pretty low. Perfect case in point, I have some really nice coins I'd love to show & sell! (please don't back door me, I don't have any interest in breaking this sites rules) - I'd love to show them here but I don't have enough posts... even though I have almost 300 successful transactions on ebay (@ 100% success rate), that doesn't matter here. One of the online hot wheels clubs that I'm a member of, used to require your name, email, telephone number and ebay user name (if it wasn't 100% you were denied membership). Wish that was the same here. Once again, don't mean to offend (and I'm sure the rules are there for a reason) but it is abit frustrating.

Listing auction style, you can still make the starting price what you want to get out of it (same as you list a BIN), and if it doesn't sell you don't have a listing fee to pay. I'm pretty sure that the rules are the way that they are, so that people don't sign up just to sell coins here. By doing it this way, the admins are ensureing that its members are contributing, and then they reward them with the priveledge to sell here without the ebay fees.

Quote:I have some coins from my collection that I would like to sell. I am reluctant to go to a dealer because many of the reviews paint them as unscrupulous (at least the ones I checked near my home). I am thinking about selling on ebay or Delcampe or some other site, but I am a complete novice, and would like some advice. - Do's, Don'ts, and how to figure out what would be reasonable prices to ask for, e.g. see what others are asking on ebay, check other sites, whether to establish a fixed price or auction, etc.. Before you paint dealers as "unscrupulous", remember that they have to make a profit on the coins they buy, so they can't offer you Trends or catalog prices. Granted, there are sleazy dealers who will ripoff the unsuspecting. I rarely deal with B&M dealers anymore, their overhead makes it hard for them to competitively price their wares. I prefer online auctions and local coin shows for my purchases.

Paste it to the search box, you will get it: Sellers shipping to USA only
Responding an unhappy customer in one month will not be good for business.
