I also have a gun safe. I bought some shelving material to cover the shelf with the cutout for the gun barrels.

I got lucky when I bought my safe. the dealer had adjustable shelves made for it. adjustable shelves work great, so I have shelves for both my Danscos, and my 3 ring binders.

my safe has strips of metal built into the corners that serve as a site to put brackets similar to the type you would you for adjustable bookshelves. It's a Canon.

So much depends on the safe or gun cabinet you end up buying. Also, you never mentioned as to what size your looking for so that too could make a difference. Safes and Gun cabinets come in almost any size and shape imaginable. Some come with numerous shelves and some have none. Some are small and some are massive. I suggest you just try Google for safes and gun cabinets until you decide on a size, shape and possible shelving.

Yup, thanks => I'll borrow the Hilti-drill from work this weekend (man, I've been planning to do it, but I've merely been too lazy to complete the task)

I am of the belief that you can add shelves to anything. A little MDF, felt, Velcro, and a good drill and Skil saw added with lots of common sense and forethought can make for some wonderful storage options in any safe or cabinet or wall or big box or... Well, you get the idea...

I have the same problem with my gun safe. There is a small shelf on the top and I made a second, slightly larger, shelf by sticking a slab of wood on top of the built in gun rack. My next step is to purchase some more wood and just build a little bookcase type deal. I tried to find an existing bookcase with the right dimensions, but haven't been able to.
I'd show pictures, but the safe is wedged into a very small area and there's not enough clearance to take a decent picture.

It would be great if you could ;ut a safe in a place that you could cover with a slidding off to the side book case. Crooks usually don't steal books.

Hmmm, that's probably very true ... Oh, or maybe we could make a safe that looked like a washer-dryer set (crooks don't usually do their laundry while they're ripping you off either, right?) ... I think we might be on to something here, Carl?

There are other options than a safe or safe deposit box if you are only concerned with theft. I hesitate to post them here as you never know who might be lurking in the shadows. I have a gun safe that is fire proof for 45 minutes and bolted to the floor. It stores my coins/bullion and firearms, only problem is I need another safe to sit next to it as the firearms eat up alot of real estate in it.
If you are interested in other "Proven" places, email me and I will share what I know.

I also use this method to secure my collection and firearms as well. in addition I have monitored alarm service on the house for an added layer of prevention.
