Great fun indeed! Roll searching for nickels is a very enjoyable way to enjoy the hobby IMHO ... and with enough dedication it is still possible to complete the entire circulation strike series from rolls. Appears from the photos that you are off to a great start. Quote: One of them was the 1943D Hey ... I need that one. Still looking for my 1943-D ... and I'm over 132 boxes into the search so far. Keep us posted on your finds ... and enjoy the hunt. David
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

My way is similar but get $200 bags from the bank, they come from the coin sorting machine. The first bag had 27 different nickels in the 1938 - 1959 time period (43 in total). The next bag had 20 different ones (44 in total). They filled 32 holes in total with 3 silver for the time period 1938 - 1959. Only 2 2009 D. Other than that I think I saw about all of the other coins but no 1960 D. There rarest finds were a 1950, 1951 S, and a 1955

Quote: That's one heck of a box! I've yet to find a single 09, and I'm 6 boxes in, let alone some of the other coins you scored in that box. I'm in the same boat. Five boxes and no 2009's yet!

7 boxes into my search so far. 14 holes left to fill. 9 of the war-nickels, 38d and s, 39d, 50d, and 55p. My brother searched one of the boxes, and found this one for me... I've found 12 2009D's so far as well...along with another 1943D silver.

Sweet 39s! At least EF, maybe AU. Good luck with your quest; don't give up! The 39d and the 50d will probably take a large number of boxes. I've only found 3 50d through over 400 boxes.

OK, I'll admit it.... I'm a very weak and impatient man... As of this past friday morning, I only had 12 holes to fill. For $10...at 10AM on Friday...I filled 3 of the holes. (I picked these up from my local dealer) As of 8PM PST tonight and $28 later...after a few "buy-it-now" purchases via e-bay, I've managed to fill the remaining holes. I've got less than $75 invested in the entire album. Now, all I need to do is start searching for "upgrades".

The nickels look great! I have the odds and ends of a possible collection. Now you guys are making me salivate at the thought of actually searching in earnest! I thought I was joining a hobby but this is a bit addictive at times it would seem. Kinda like my bargain hunting. There is a certain thrill there both in the hunt itself and also when you find it at a bargain or a steal of a deal. Next week is a huge halves search if the bank teller told me the truth and ordered all my boxes of halves. I decided to obsess over the halves next week then get just a few boxes the next week as I have to have some time to fix a few things here at my old place before time to leave and also time to pack what I already have. Now you are making me want some more nickels and wish I had been looking closer at the box I already searched a few weeks ago and kept more for my collection that I have now decided to start in earnest! Lol. Still need some more quarters to find my next ATB for my budding collection.

very impressive. This should be a motivation to anyone who wanted to try to fill an album from what you can still get.

We've all been there with the "impatience" part ! ..... And the "upgrading".....that's related to the O.C.D. of this hobby .... Once you've built one from circulation.....then you can't rest until you build another one with all "high grades", Proofs, etc. etc. Then you want to do this with ALL of the coinage ! Congrats and good luck ! ....

That looks like alot of fun! Congrats. That is alot of the fun of the hobby, as far as I am concern. Hunting, looking through change. I can relate to impatience!
After 20 years of casually looking, a forum member helped me finish my Jefferson collection.

Nice, I might have to pick up the same deal too. My daughter and I would go to town on this little project!
