Quote: By me even asking for those is a joke. First of all I would have to explain what they are or were. Then I'd have to know how to say it in Spanish. Then I'd be sent to an officer since the tellers would think I'm trying to rob them or something. Eventually I'd leave and go to a fast food place and again, not be able to order anything in English. Sound's like my area! In Pennsylvania it's just like that. Really dumb workers, they don't always understand what you're trying to order. Plus most of them don't speak English.

I don't have any problems here in Austin, TX. My local branches (I frequent 4 of them) all seem to have something (Ikes, Kennedys, Sacs, Prez $1, SBAs) when I ask. They're usually very nice about asking the other tellers if they have anything unusual as well. I try to be grateful and friendly about it, and that seems to pay off.
On one trip recently I got lucky and got a few of each including a 40% Kennedy. That doesn't happen often, but it's nice when it does!

I couldn't imagine lucking out and finding Morgans in circ. I have $40 in Ikes right now that I picked up the other day. I don't know what to do with them. I think I'll spend them at the coin shop and buy some silver.

I just went through 1000 ikes today that my bank ordered for me. I got 5 American eagles, 4 morgans, 1 peace, a Hungarian Taler Dollar, uncs, a proof, and a 73. Another bank customer bought the other 983 from me. Bank customers love ikes. Just tell your tellers to give out your number to those people who are looking for ikes.

I received a nice surprise on Thursday. My bank teller said she had just gotten in some rolls of $1 coins and asked if a wanted any. I asked if the were new president $1 coins or Sacawageas $1. She wasn't sure so I said I would take a couple of rolls. Surprise, surprise, surprise they were IKE rolls. Still need to go through them, so they are still out there.

Whenever I've asked, the tellers literally laugh at me

It's hard to get dollar coins around here, let alone halves or Ikes. I've almost stopped asking at the bank I have an account at since they've always told me "No." I have better luck just stopping at random banks when I'm out and about. That being said, I'd love to get my hands on some just so I put them into circulation; would be great to see people's reactions.

None here for me. I have almost given up asking.

I've gotten around 2000 of them over the past 5 years or so from banks in jersey most from 3 gigantic lots of several hundred coins including an entire bag of 500 that was about to be shipped to the fed. I've gotten three 1972 type 2 coins, a silver eagle, 2 40% ikes (one I sent out to ANACS and came back MS67!), as well as a Peace dollar and two morgans. From various instances I've also found collectively about 100 of them along with a morgan floating around in the collection basins of coin counting machines (those I got for free!). From the clad business strikes I'm only missing the 1973 P. I bought my 1973 d from a dealer in a wholesale lot for like $1.10, the rest I found from circulation.

Got really lucky today. I've been looking for a bank near me that still offers rolled dollar coins (to contribute to the $100k circulation thread) and stopped by one that I had yet to try. When I got to the counter I was happy to find out they had them so I plunked down my $25 for one. After I got my roll I turned to leave and then, thinking, "What the heck", I turned back to the teller and asked him if he had any of the "larger" dollar coins and, after thinking for a second, he said "Yeah, pretty sure we do. How many do you want?" Not really sure how to respond, I just asked, "How many do you have?". In the end, it turned they had 66 Ikes but I only had $50 left in my wallet so that's all I was able to get. I'm hoping I'll be able to go back tomorrow for the rest but that depends on what my wife's reaction will be to the fact that I've, yet again, used all my spending money on coins. I've already got a pile of quarters sitting in a box, next to another pile of halves that I'm still trying to use up, so things are not looking good. haha Here's hoping that when I get a chance to go through them I'll find something nice. That would go a long way towards keeping me out of trouble. ;)

It is not for a lack of trying, banks tell me they can not order them. Most do not even know what they are.
