Thanks for the welcome! Everything I've gone through so far has a pic and description on the site. Next is forgein coins, because I need a change(pun unintended, but appropriate!). Then it's back to US- lots of stuff wrapped in rolls and in little bags that say "US Mint". Goodness only knows what's in there- maybe some flying eagles! We'll just have to keep an eye out.

Fred- What area of AZ are you in (if you don't mind me asking)? Glad you're enjoying the pics! Posts like yours are what keep me going through the 54th vial. ;)

Mary, I'm in a tiny (35 units on 40 acres) semi-boondocking RV park in the middle of the desert about 60-70 miles east of Quartzsite. Exit 69 off I-10 if you're familiar with the area. Not near anything, but our PO is Salome, about 25 miles WNW of us. No neighbors, just open range cattle, rattlesnakes, and an occasional wild burro.

Just updated with a lot of really cool foreign coins. Need ID's on some Oriental ones if anyone is an expert in that area.

Fred- I've actually been through Quartzite driving between California and Texas several times. I thought I lived in the middle of no where, but you have me beat!

I just finished posting the last of the coin pictures- US Mint Bags to the end. I ended up with 2102 coins!! Unbelievable!! The last thing I'll add will be paper currency, and I'll get to that next week. http://www.monshaugenfamily.com/coins.htm

For those of you who were following my Visit from the Sheriff thread and wondered where it went, it got moved to here: https://goccf.com/t/11488

Just when I thought I was finished...

I was going through some of grandma's boxes looking for old pictures to show her. I found a Sam Houston cigar box and thought it was kind of cool. When to pick it up and man, was it heavy! Guess what? About 35 more rolls. At least I'll have something to keep me busy this afternoon. My husband says God only knows how much was stolen from her house, because it had been vacant for the past 6 years and was vandalized a few times.

That is a really nice collection she accumulated over the years. My own opinion is that I wouldn't sell any of the coins. I might sell or trade duplicates to obtain more coins to add to the collection but that is about it. This is only what I would do.

Irishraider- That's actually the plan. Once I finish with the catalogue, then I'm going to go back and start researching the coins by type. I'll keep the best few specimens of each date/mint and sell the duplicates to fill in the holes in the collection. Should be a lot of fun! I'm starting with the Morgans next week.

Unvelievable. What a group of coins. I can't believe you have so much. It's just so massive. I can't wait for you to post pics of your currency. I love collecting currency and have lots of it.
Thanks for the pics,

Mary, believe it or not, but there is a subset of numismatists who collect chocolate coins. I couldn't find a specific website, but they're out there. One of the hardest problems you may face is deciding on which coin field(s) to specialize, e.g., 19th century US or world, moderns, errors/varieties, Morgans , quarters, nickels, dimes, type coins (one of each kind), Bust Half Dollars, or a thousand other categories. Many of us can't decide, so try to collect everything which, as we all know, is impossible; it also tends to fill space in our homes such as a full room dedicated solely to coins. I've lately gotten interested in 2ç coins, but I've also lately become interested in Flying Eagle cents and a US type collections (See Dansco 7070 threads). I've also got an interesting collection of wooden nickels (exonumia). While I've generally concentrated on Morgans over the years, I keep breaking out and finding something new, so I've got coins from all over the world and all throughout time, most without any real organization.

Good luck on the currency!

Fred- Chocolate coin collectors? I guess they'd have to store their collection in a refrigerated safe deposit box. I see what you mean about deciding what to focus on. I'm kinda scattered and want to focus on about 10 things at once! But I'm going to start with a few things:
1. In grandma's collection, I'm going to start researching all of her Morgan's. Set aside 2 date/mint sets and a few extras, then sell the rest to complete the collection.
2. For my own personal collection, I'm going to concentrate on coins with fish on them. I have two other hobbies and both can be incorporated into coin collection. Fish have been my passion since I was 17, and I recently sold my fish related business so I miss them. This is a great way to continue that part of my life.
3. Since fish coins are all world coins and not US, I'm going to work on adding to Grandma's collection of world coins and try to get one coin from every country. I figure that while I'm buying fish coins on ebay, if a seller has some other world coins I don't have I can throw them in and save on shipping. Killing 2 birds with 1 stone!

All that said, I just finishing cataloguing the rest (hopefully!) of Grandma's collection. It's all under More Rolled Coins.

Edited to state that the total coin count was 3,325 individual coins. AMAZING!

Mary, as I mentioned in my first response, you have enough to start your own coin shop.

Actually, there are a lot of fishy US coins. They may be found frequently on ebay in the form of US Trade dollars, 1804 Bust Dollars, and many uncommon dates and mintmarks of Morgan silver dollars to mention a very few. We usually call them fakes or counterfeits, but they're still fishy!

I don't think a chocolate coin collection would last long around me, especially if they were mint chocolate.
