I just love the look of this one. MS63, paid $25, worth $160.

These are not special due to their value but because they were my first large cents, bought at a flea market in the 80's when I was around 8. They were part of the reason that I fell in love with coins such large penny's amazed me they appear polished from 20+ years of fiddling with. Which is why I bought my daughter a bank of Montreal large cent when she was 3 y.o.. She loves it and I am looking for something for April when she turns 7.

Nothing special really, but then I don't have many Canadian coins yet. On the other hand my untrained eyes puts it at VF, which makes the $1 I paid for it quite a good deal.

ZiggyZ: The silver content is over 1 gram, which makes $1 a good deal. I cannot grade, so bullion value always serves as a benchmark for me.

Dvereckis: that's a neat story there. I got this hobby from my parents. They didn't earn much when I was little. But they tried to put all coins they got into a tin box. And I just liked playing with them.

Geezer: is the rotation mentioned on the slab? Possibly 15 degrees?

Not noted on the slab.
Also what doesn't show up in the photos is the delicate rose toning around the periphery of the reverse.

How do you choose only 1 ?
While that 1948 silver dollar is sure a nice coin, the ones I "prize" the most are the ones I've found that have a value that far exceeds what I paid for them.

I've never had the funds to buy those expensive coins, so finding rare coins at rock bottom prices is how I've built my collection. Here are a some that I've acquired in the last 10 years that are real prizes;

5 cents 1858 Large Date RP#2 (cost $38; too bad about that rim nick - listed at $300 in F-12)

Here it is. Not the best pic, but the glare was making it hard.
