The politics between TPG's is obnoxious in my opinion. PCGS is known for not crossing over coins in NGC holder because they want to hold the standard for the tougher grading. They use the excuse that they fear of damaging the coin when opening the plastic, but it's more than that. On the flip side, NGC is more lenient when crossing over coins. I've seen a Proof Morgan that grade 66 in a NGC holder that was certified by CAC that didn't cross over to PCGS. More and more people are beginning to believe that PCGS is becoming the ultimate TPG. Lower population for higher graded coins, higher percentage to CAC, and more coins have been graded by them. Your best bet when crossing over coins is to take them out of the holder yourself, then send it in to be graded. You DEFINITELY have a greater chance of having it grade the grade you want. Just make sure you put down a minimum grade, otherwise it could downgrade. Were you thinking of crossing any over?

They want to be seen as superior so if they give off the image that they're the tougher grader, more people will want their coins graded with them.

Sweet replies. The TPG grading game is touuugggghh. I always assumed I'd have to crack the slab before sending. The TPGs always say the coins are graded by a few different people and they all don't have knowledge of the other guys etc. Leaving it in the slab wouldn't seem to have much relavance I'd think, but I'm speculating. As far as crossover examples, I have a coin graded ANACS70. Market value $500 bucks. Of course it has a first day label(which I would lose and a real shame because a PCGS first strike is worth much more over a normal label. A PCGS ms69 Market value $500 bucks. A PCGS 70 through the roof!A cool $1000 or so. Someone else was saying ANACs is hard on grades, which would be great in my case if I decide to crossover, BUT I have seen PCGS 70s with hits on the reverse etc and I was like how did this ever grade?

None of the services will cross a 70. If you want to change services with a 70 you HAVE to give them permission to crack it out and if it doesn't cross at that grade too bad. (Actually with a 70 they might insist that YOU crack it out so you can't claim they damaged it doing so.)

Not one coin I've ever sent in in another TPG holder has crossed at same grade or better. 85-90% of my cracked out coins come back at what I thought they would no problem.

I have only crossed ANACS and ICG coins to PCGS. I've never tried to cross an NGC slab to PCGS because the coins I own/collect/sell are fine in an NGC holder and I feel NGC is a top TPG. PCGS will allow you specify a lower minimum grade than is on the current slab. NGC will too but it can only be a PCGS slab and I doubt anyone would do this (allow NGC to cross their PCGS slab at a lower grade). Anyway, I recently bought an 1855-O SLH in an ICG MS64 holder and sent it to PCGS with a 63 minimum. They crossed it at 63 and it is now on it's way back from CAC with a green sticker.

What are the relative retail values between a ICG-64 and a PCGS-63 jellybean?

SO you are saying If I have an ANACS 70 First day in a slab it would probably cross to PCGS 70 I don't understand and I don't think the graders are open until Monday. I read this article, but its old, and I don't know if PCGS does it anymore http://news.coinupdate.com/crossing...o-pcgs-0274/

I bought it in the ICG MS64 slab for $1100 (MS62 retail pricing). In a PCGS/CAC MS63 holder, it should bring $1500 easy and maybe more. She's back from CAC now:

I am about to send some coins (ANACS and NGC) to PCGS to fill some spots in my PCGS collection. I will let you all know how that turns out.

More likely if you break out a PCGS 70 and send it to PCGS raw, it'll come back 68 or 69. Prolly an unfair example, becuz 70 is an imaginary grade anyway.
