You won't be missing much unless you want to watch them rip the uneducated off :)

Kinda reminds me of a basement broadcast (WPAN, Ft Walton Beach, FL - originated in Tennessee) Antique Pocket Watch, Knifes and Antiques in general programs. They had outrageous "buy it now" prices and they had an acronym that I have not encountered since "BRIO" Best Reasonable Intelligent Offer, plus an occasional "true auction". They were a bunch of "good ol' boys" who liked to gab while their product was spinning on a turntable. I learned alot from those programs and "paid my dues" (stupid tax) a few times.

I remember watching one years ago with a guy named Buddy. He had a FR2 1877 IHC that he was selling for VG money. He acted like it was the only one on Earth. It was entertaining to watch them try to sell those coins.

Here's the link to Art & Coin TV with Barry Chappell who, in my opinion, is even more enjoyable than the guys on The Coin Vault! http://www.artandcointv.com/

Quote: If anything, it's good entertainment. Indeed. Not to mention the smug sense of numismatic superiority I get from knowing enough not to get conned by those hucksters. What amazes me is that they are apparently making enough sales to continue airing their programs. South Park just did an episode on cable TV jewelry hucksters that would also be applicable to the coin hucksters.

Quote: I am considering Direct TV in the OKC area. How much was too much? My DirecTV plan is locked in for the first year at $51/mo; I chose to continue the free 3-month subscription to HBO/Cinemax/Starz (lotsa total premium channels) which sent it to $98. That price includes whole-home DVR and three receivers. If you decide to go DirecTV, let me know - they've a program for friend referral that would net us each $100 in bill credits.

Quote: South Park just did an episode on cable TV jewelry hucksters that would also be applicable to the coin hucksters. It was beyond hilarious. The nature of that program prevents it from being discussed in detail. (Hint: No linking the episode or clips; and absolutely no discussing the non-friendly dialogue!)However, it presented a wonderful explanation... - Retiree buys overpriced jewelery item on home shopping channel. - Retiree gives item to younger family member as gift. - Younger family member finds it atrocious, sells it to a "Cash 4 Gold" buyer for a very low price. - Cash 4 Gold buyer sells it to smelter. - Smelter disassembles and melts it; sells raw materials to jewelery manufacturer. - Manufacturer creates new item, sells to home shopping channel. - Rinse and repeat.

I wouldn't trust DreckTV since the left $80 million in broadband customers blowing in the wind. Have you compared DishTV?

I miss out on all those types of programs. I still use an Antenna. No cable, dish, no monthly payments, no payments of any kind. Get only 55 stations and all free. Usually get DVD's of movies in the $1 to $3 dollar range so with many hundreds of those, not much time to even think about cable or dish TV.

"Get only 55 stations and all free."
Carl, I must say I find 55 stations to be a lot. Before the digital switch over I got seven stations on antenna. Now I get none because I haven't bothered to hook up the converter box. :-D

Quote: Coin Vault routinely charges about double the going rate for the coins they sell. I have never seen a cable TV coin seller who offered coins at anything other than exorbitant prices. You have to understand the mechanics. TV coin sellers are not coin dealers, they're merchandise promoters. This means that they want to sell popular coins that are available in promotable quantities. Guess what, popular coins are, well, popular, and they don't go for huge discounts, meaning they buy at close to retail. Add to that the high cost of TV sales, and using a bank of telemarketers and a shipping department, and doubling their money is in line with sound business practices.

Not to discuss Antenna TV but there are more and more stations being added every day for Antenna only. AND you seldom need a converter box anymore since almost all TV's, DVD/VHS players now too have Digital tuners. More and more powered antennae are being sold everywhere. Naturally if you have a roof antenna with a rotor as I do, you can get more and more stations all the time. When my Antenna is pointing in only one direction, I get about 45 to 50 stations. As I turn the antenna, more and more stations from other areas come in. AND they are exceptionally clear. Unfortunately one of those stations is HSN. And they too have coins.
