For some reason, my question didn't post on the auction, but was sent to him. I thought you could post a public question?

You can, if it's your listing. Otherwise, no.

That just makes me mad. The $5 for shipping just adds to it. It just makes all ebay coin sellers look bad. That's why I only buy from established people on ebay. It doesn't eliminate the shysters, but it sure helps. I find the best thing is to remember the good sellers and do business with them again.

Yeah! They responded:

Me:

Message: This seller has the composition listed as gold and this is not correct - it is a modern dollar coin whose composition is 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel. Additionally, the year minted is listed as 1836 when in truth the coin was released in 2009.

Just got this back:

I just hope they give some penalty to the seller, for doing something that bad. Otherwise, they'll just do it again with something else.

Message: not gold, not even plated

It's in ebay's best interest to cancel listings rather than pay for SNAD.

They do have the ebay Buyer Protection, so I don't know if that will cover false advertising or not.

Yep: Significantly Not As Descriptionated.

Glad to see that it was caught before someone got ripped off. Out of curiosity does anyone know if it was a new seller or someone that has been running scams like this a lot?

You're in ... anyone is in. All you have to do is surf ebay and if something is blatantly off the wall, post your concern in this forum topic I would think.

I wonder if it is OK to post the seller name of the questionable listing though. I think they do deserve to be tarred and feathered in some public place, but I don't know for sure if it is OK here in CCF.

I've seen plenty posted but don't recall anyone objecting.

You can post the listing number, so the seller isn't a secret.

Yes, but after so long the listing is no longer available to view, therefore so is the seller.
