hilty, this site will give you some great advice on collecting , ie grades , varieties, etc , valuable information before and during your collecting. A good start would be to look at Charlton's Grading Guide for Canadian Coins and the 2012 Charlton Catalogue for Canadian Coins, and the Canadian Coin News Paper, all of which will help you get the best half dollars for your money. You might want to join the local coin club http://waterloocoinsociety.com/ which will help with advice and let you know when and where the local coin shows are held ( one of your best bets for collecting ) . Use the search function to check the Canadian section of this site to see past posts for 50 cent or half dollars.

The you go. Please forgive the quality. It's my first time photographing coins and the camera I was using is lets say less than stellar. Hope it suffices!

(The reason the pics are at different angles is because the focus on the camera tends to spaz out and only work when it wants to, so I had to try to reposition and refocus. No adjustable focus on this one sadly)

Hey hilty! Lots of good advice already on this thread. I'm also a bullion collector, I'm trying to get one example from each bullion producing country. A member here, poboxw, has a wicked world bullion collection, check the Precious Metals forum for a thread that has pics of his collection.

Some other ideas for your bullion would be:
- Canadian Wildlife bullion. Currently 4 out of 6 have been released. Wolf, Grizzly, Cougar and Moose. Premiums for the older ones are already going up a lot, so I'd get on those quickly!
- Vancouver 2010 bullion. The mint came out with three bullion coins for the 2010 Olympics.
- Mexican Libertad. Very popular, nice design
- My new favorite is the Fiji Taku bullion coin. It's actually made in New Zealand I think, but it's very nice in hand

Stick around here, you'll learn lots!

My advice to you is to stop buying coins in a hurry and start buying books - The Charlton Catalogue would be an excellent place to start.

Agree with the wildlife suggestion too. The wolf is sold out in stores everywhere I look. Seems to be the most popular one. I only have the moose myself but it's a nice one.

If you want some nice bullion at a reasonable price
silvergoldbull.com there a canadian company.
For orders that are larger and my bullion/coin dealer in town can't arrange they are who I deal with.

Ive been meaning to post pictures of it all. Usually I post pictures on the precious metals part of CCF.

This is what I have on my desk right now
roughly $250FV in pre 1966 coinage soon to be off to the melting bin.
