Thanks for the replies guys. Me and my wife both love sorting through coins. Although after sorting she doesn't care much about them any longer. I may try one of the smaller lots. If the small lot is good then I may move on to a bigger one. BenVA

What is the average price per coin that one should pay, including shipping, when buying a large lot? My guess is that you'd obviously want to be able to try to resell the stuff you don't want and at least get your money back on those coins.

I am not sure what the average would be Mary. This is my first purchase of a lot like this. I will try to give you guys an idea once I receive it and start going through it. I will probaobly sell the extras off at some local auctions. That is if no one here wants to trade for some of them.BenVA

Well the bag of coins arrived today. We started sorting some. It looks like I have a good variety so far. I think it will be fun to sort them out. I will post more about them as I do more sorting. BenVA

Well I have sorted them out by country. I have containers and Ziploc bags everywhere. There was a lot of variety, but I did get a lot of coins from Spain and France. I will try to let everyone know haw many different countries soon. There are several coins from the 1800's in the lot and a few early 1900's. Most are more recent. I will try to update again in a day or so. BenVA

Do you mind sharing the name of seller that you bought this from?

equitycoins is the sellers name. They seemed polite when I emailed them a question about shipping after the auction was over. They replied in a timely manner. They also shipped pretty quickly to.

I have bought large lots before but gave it up since you very rarely find anything of value. These are usually made up by people who need to get rid of large quantities of coins. The vast majority are duplicates of very minor and inexpensive coins. I would buy bags from coin dealers at their shops because sometimes they put good stuff in there to get you to return and buy more.

Well I am still sorting so I cant say how many different countries I have gotten so far. I have found only one silver coin so far. Also about 6 or so coins from the 1800's. I have found several coins worth a couple of dollars and one worth around $85 which I was pretty happy about. I will update soon.

I've bought at least four of those bags. I've gotten two from equity coins. I paid $250 for two bags, which included shipping. Most of the coins that you get are from countries that converted to the Euro. They always have a lot from Spain. However, I've found lots of coins that are worth a $1 - $10. I've found a dozen or so silver coins. I've found a few french coins that are worth $40 - $50 each.

Of course you get lots and lots of duplicates. But the good thing is that you can pick out the best quality for your collection. I've now got quite a few pounds of coins that I need to sell, and I've got lots to trade.

These are the base of my world coin collection, that includes over 5,000 unique coins (country, denomination, date, mintmark) in my world coin collection.

I'm getting ready to buy 2 more.

Yea, my bag also contained a lot of coins from Spain and France. I still need to finish going through a few more countries and I will be done. France is one of the countries I still need to go through. Maybe I will find another good coin or two. BenVA
