@ eaglefoot: Originally I thought it would be fun to try to hunt the wild for them, banks and what not but after asking at several banks without much luck and realizing that I would not find the Proof and Silver issues in the wild I changed my course. I figure that I can most of the coins at a good price for quality specimens that will really shine in the Dansco.
There is a small coin shop in my town but I have been in there a few times and it is a coin and jewelry ship that also buys gold & silver. I am not sure if this is normal but the few times I have been in there it just seems that the coins are more of a side thing than anything else. I may be wrong as I am fairly green here but I just don't get a great feeling from it though.
If anyone knows any good dealers in NE Ohio that don't mind taking a little time to help a rookie feel free to point me in their direction.

Merc Man, I'm originally from Erie, PA and there's a great place there called Dempsey & Baxter that might be able to help you out. I know it's not precisely "NE Ohio", but it's only about a 2hr drive from Cleveland (worth it if they've got something rare you want, I'd say--my family used to drive to Cleveland just for the milkshakes at Yours Truly!) and a Google search for their name provides both their online store and their brick-and-mortar phone number right at the top of the page. Also, this guy doesn't do a whole lot of work with coins, but he may be a good contact for you: http://edinborojeweler.com/ Cecil is honest and so dedicated to quality in his work that even now, when I live 2500 miles away in a town absolutely crawling with artisan jewelers, I mail my jewelry to a friend back home to take to him for repair. If he can't help you, he should know a couple of local places (or places closer to you) that would be worth your time.

Merc Man, add me to the Ike list. Its the first (and still only) Dansco Proof album I have completed. As a matter of fact, I have completed a second one for my wife, VACookey. I havent put up pics of that one yet. This is my forst one. I have upgraded one or two coins, but thats pretty much it right now. https://goccf.com/t/100901So obviously I applaud the choice of Ikes.

I completed my Ike set and went back and have done a proof ike set and a second complete with varieties. I think its a great set to start and not to pricey. Same with the SBA. those dollars shine so nice in my danscos.

The Ike is a great choice! Sure, you will have to get most of them through 'buying' instead of circulation, but they are a relatively inexpensive coin any way you look at it. I did my first set as Jefferson nickels. There are far more of them, but almost all (but proofs) can come from circulation as a start. That way you can 'fill' holes at 5c each, then slowly upgrade to nicer ones down the road. It was a bigger challenge than I thought it would be, but now I have a really pretty set of Jeffs, since it is all full and upgraded to UNC. Only a very few were expensive to upgrade from circulated. Well worth it. I would recommend Jeffs after you do your Ikes.

Don't forget to add the 2 Ike commems to your collection too! (proof and unc) They are 2 more inexpensive dollars, and 90% to boot!

I'm working on my Franklin half circulated set currently, but I think I'll tackle this one next. Thanks for the inspiration.

@ ratio411: I have actually been CRH to complete a set of Jeffersons while I am picking up Ike's for my set. I am getting close to the complete set of Ike's and just ordered my Dansco to put them in. I do like your idea of getting the 2 Ike commems as I have really started to take an interest in that series. Hope there are extra slots in the Dansco. @ CelticKnot: You may have just made jbuck's day. Another member of the Ike fan club.

MercMan: There are 4 extra holes in the Ike with proof album from Dansco. Since the Ike commems are pretty much the lowest priced modern commems available, I have decided to use all 4 holes for that coin. I was going to put an unc/proof pair obverse out, and an unc/proof pair with reverse out. I know it is duplicating, but the holes are empty, there are 4, the Ike commems are cheap, and it fills it up.

Quote: I know it is duplicating, but the holes are empty, there are 4, the Ike commems are cheap, and it fills it up. I think that is a good idea. I have no problem with duplicates. My four extra holes are duplicates: 1971-D, 1972, 1976 (Variety 1), and 1977-D. Totally random, but as luck would have it (since the holes were filled long before I knew they existed), the one in the 1972 hole is a Variety 3, while the "duplicate" is a Variety 1.

Jbuck: Thanks. The best thing about those 4 holes is that you can make them the only 4 holes in the album with 90% silver in them! 90% silver = good!

Now that is something I did not even consider. Very nice!

@ratio411 I am going to steal that idea for sure. Or at least 2 of the commems. Can't go wrong with silver.
