I would like to go for silver ones, from proof sets, CA has a few for $10-$15 each. But I will settle for nickel ones since I wont be able to afford every silver proof 50cent piece :P

I would ask around at a few banks. Perhaps your local bank will hold on to any that they get for you. I suspect if you are patient you will be able to get quite a few at face.

I just finished nickel 1968-2012 and proof 1981-1995, it's not hard to collect, only a few tricky ones: 1999P 2000P (I can't find this one, J&M lists it for $5,000?!) 2000W 2002P 2003P 2003WP 2004P

Quote: 2000P (I can't find this one, J&M lists it for $5,000?!) The 2000P half is extremely rare. It was issued in a special commemorative clock. According to Charlton there are an estimated 276 examples.

I put together almost my entire nickel 50c piece from just asking at banks. Only a few dates before 2000 and most after 2000 I had to buy...and yes I bought them from ASYN, at about $1 each - not bad (this excludes any 'W' mark or very recent 50c prices). Good luck with the banks, it's hit or miss, but keep tryin!

ordered some 50c pieces from ebay, one silver 64 and one UNC 74. Going to hit some local banks, but I already tried a few and no luck. Getting them at face value will be a good summer challenge

The problem with silver ones is that they're bigger, so I don't think you could find them in a bank coin roll like you can in the US.

yes I noticed that, shame :( I will hopefully find some nickel ones for face, hopefully something close to BU condition. Tried a few more banks, no luck. Altho maybe they wont roll the 50cents, maybe i'll get lucky and someone will dump theirs in a bag that contains silver ones!

$2-3 (some in the $4 range)is a fair price for 50c pieces IMO... only why to get them cheaper is buying rolls. Plus anything 1985-Date (with the 2002 being an exception) has less than a million minted. so far I have found rolls for 74 and 1984-Date and some rolls costing $35.. an dthe 2006P roll costing $50 (only 98000 minted).
