Tripods are overrated lol .. (personal preference IMHO) just a better cam and proper lighting .. Plus practice .. taking photos of coins is pretty tough at first but the more you do it and tinker around you figure things out ..

I use a in-expensive canon powershot a470 .. works like a champ little hand held cam with a super macro feature .. I just set the ISO to 80 and evaluate the white balance ..

Best of luck to you on your hunts and searching . looking forward to seeing what else you may find ..

Phil

Heres a photo with the set up I use just for reference -

It's just a plain, old, average 22D.

Easiest cropping software is http://www.irfanview.com for PCs. It's free.

chzman...Another good (free) cropping program is software called Shotwell...You might give it a try...I use it for both coins and stamps...Just a thought.

The camera does not cause your image problems. It's the setting the camera is on that cause your problems. That and not enough light. With proper settings and a rather steady hand anyone can take a decent macro shot of a coin.

If the camera has a decent macro setting. Many don't.
