I'd sell both and try to find a better one. Even decent '95's aren't too expensive (well, really decent, both of these are decent enough!). Let me see what I can do to find some for you to look at.

Tough call. I'm in the "sell them both and buy a better one" camp.

Does either one have edge lettering? I don't think the first one does but it looks like the second one might. If it does then keep that one. Both coins are S-76. S-76 comes both with and without edge lettering. The 76b plain edge is common. The 76a lettered edge is rare, R-5 fewer than 75 known.

I would sell 'em both for a better one. All three of the ones above beat the one that I don't have.

The 1st one is not a problem free coin either- cleaned and looks like it could have light corrosion itself. I like the 2nd one better because of teh obverse details. Since they both have problems, the better detailed coin (2nd one) is what I'd keep. However, I do like the idea that you sell both pieces and use that $$ plus a little extra to buy a problem-free example.

Even with the corrosion, I would take the second one personally...better detail, better eye-appeal IMO. We are in the same boat cipster, Large Cents on a budget with me too...in the process of buying a home so right now, pennies count :)

I like the second one because the obverse is nice and that is what I see mostly in my albums!

Thanks for your feedback and your opinions. I do like the 2nd one better and that's why I bought it, but the corrosion is a bit troubling. The idea of selling both to buy a better one makes sense. Quote: Does either one have edge lettering? Both are plain edge and thanks Conder101 for identifying the variety.

Thanks Scropper, Actually I have it in my ebay watch list. It just made a big jump to $717 and there's still a day to go on the auction. I'm watching and hopefully learning

I feel it was. I probably wouldn't have gone much much, but that is (if the pictures are right) an astoundingly nice coin. Here's another option for you: http://www.earlycents.com/new_page_324.htmThe price listed on Chris' site is unlikely to be his final price. I don't know if it's a good enough upgrade, but I it is an upgrade from yours...
