I will agree with the pevious comments about certification. Your coin is genuine without them but, use them to your advantage when it comes time to sell. PCGS or NGC will do. ;-)

Yeah, even if its genuine its just a smart decision to make sure the thing is protected and safe. You'll need to grade it someday anyway too. And in addition to all that you are sooo excited about having found this coin that I'm sure it would really hurt you if something happened to it!

I understand the benefits to getting her slabbed. But, I'm at a cross roads, as I would like to put her in my Dansco. But, slabbing would be the smart thing to do. My local dealer/s could send it in on my behalf. I'm not sure of the cost. I do have some other items that I would like to send in.
I'm also watching some slabbed & raw w/ the same grade to see what they sell for.

Stuff it into your Dansco. Over time, the relative cost of slabbing will be offset by the increase in value, so that's not relevant. In the mean time, it's a nice example of the key to the Morgan series whose wear allows you to hold it in your hand.
That's priceless. I'd give anything to be able to hold an 1893-S raw.
However, and I mean this, write specific language into your will directing it to be authenticated and graded by your executor. I'm guessing Lisa is your SO; make sure she clearly knows what you have there.

No real need to get this one slabbed since there is little dispute about its grade or authenticity. With those photos, I suspect you could sell it on ebay right now for top dollar. |

Ditto Super Dave and Fenton, as I said in my previous post, my 1893-S will stay raw so I can hold in hand.

SsuperDdave, I like your idea. Lisa already knows the value. I keep a ledger w/ my cost and other notes on keys. So, I'll also be sure to note this this one and highlight it. LOL!

Coin looks great, I'm with SD, since you have had it since 1968 slim chance it not being real. while there is an interest of having it "slabbed" it only places an added expenditure $$$ which you would have to subtract from money spent so far to the sale price..."STICK" it into the album and if you ever you decide to sell split the submission fee with the buyer, a "win win" situation... I can't seem to fit my slabbed holders in with my raw coin books  , and it just wouldn't look the same or right if I could, G |
