Thanks for the info Glenzy that's what I was looking for. I like your thoughts acloco as I like the size of the gun safes you can get three ring binders in them easily.

Been looking for a nice portable safe with a handle, but everyone complains about moisture inside them. This is avoidable by putting the gels in there, right?

When you factor in all costs, safety deposit boxes at banks are pretty hard to beat...

Alot of good advice, especially from Glenn.
I'm not a fan of the safe deposit box for these reasons:
1) You don't have access to the box at all hours
2) Bank mistakes happen where they mix up paperwork and sell off the contents of the box
3) Goes back to #1, in a bank holiday you have no way to get your items
As far as the portable Sentry safe with the handle, I like the 1160 model. I have found them as cheap as $10 used at garage sales, or I think they retail new somewhere in the $40-50 range.

Why not a good full sized anti-theft safe with those Sentry lock box safes with water and fire protection inside the large one. I'd imagine the heavier the better.

A deposit box is not a good idea,the price you pay for 10 years more than pays for a fire proof safe and the red tape if the owner kicks the bucket,then try to get at it will or no will.

I keep my good stuff at the bank. I hide my less good stuff. I keep my important photos etc. in a very cost effective and secure 600 lb. fire proof file cabinet. Works for me. The fire proofing is way better than a safe and no one is walking off with it.

I had bought a safe but after reading the fine prints,decided to returm it.Coins might get damaged over time due to moisture content built in the walls.Not recommended for perl storage either.I like Roger have deposit boxes at the banks.Same cost as insurance premium.

You have to be very careful with fire safes. The safes are filled with lava rock. If you actually have a fire, the fire safe keeps things cool, in part, by the lava rock giving off moisture, which will make the contents wet. Anything important should be sealed inside the safe in watertight containers.
