NN's price guide (from 3-6-12) says just the cent in MS-65 is worth $75 and in MS-60 is worth $35.

It says the mint set is worth $70. They don't list a grade for it though, but probably around MS-63.

It would nice to hear from a dealer on what they know.

Did you check on completed sales on ebay?

nohope587 never said anything about a Proof. His post has nothing to do with Proofs.
Meanwhile back to HIS question. That is a sort of tuff call. In most instances selling coins separately brings in the highest returns. That is the good part. The bad part of this is although it may be easy to sell the 70S small date Cent separately, might have problem selling the other coins from the set at all. The value for the complete set with the small date is probably 8 times more than the large dated set. Attempting to sell each of the other coins from the set in a 2x2 may have people thinking they are just MS-60 or even AU-58 coins and you would get hardly nothing for those. Possibly not sell at all. Not easy to tell someone they are from a small date set.

I'm guessing they don't know about CCF yet.

but for future readers of this post...

The large/small date 1970 S was on the business strikes, not the proofs.

This statement is just patently wrong. There are ABSOLUTELY 1970s small date Proof cents...

I can get the block removed from certain sites but I am saving that card for when they do know about CCF. Site addresses are logged and checked monthly and the blocked site list updated at that time so far CCF has not made the bad list so I would assume its not going to. Its more of a band width issue that anything else as I am on a sat link. I generally surf with Graphics off until I need them to see a picture.

The SD is basically the only coin worth bothering with in the sets, I'd break them out.

Wouldn't you widen your market place if you left them in the set for sale? I mean you can always have the buyer who will break it out but then you will also have the buyer (like my hubby) who will only buy sets in tact.

Oh and surfing graphics off is the best thing to do. I am the IT Director at my place of work and outside of the obviously blocked sites, I only look for those sites utilizing large amounts of bandwidth. We are a 24 x 7 facility so I prefer not to block sites since most here are grown ups and get their work done.

That 70d half is 40% silver and only available with the mint set so I would think the set is worth more that just the SD Lincoln. That being said, you usually get the most breaking the set up, but is it worth the hassle? If the sets are going for $70 or so it looks like the half is being priced in anyway.

I agree with upstate .. the 1970 D Kennedy has value also.
In the local shops here the 1970 D sells from $10 to $15
depending on grade. If it was really nice, could get a little more.

I see 1970 S small dates sell from $25 to $40.

If you could find someone that wanted the mint set then you might make a little
more selling it that way. Of course with ebay you have the fee's.

I would want someone to have the coin in hand to verify it is a 1970 S small date.
I have 2 or 3 of them and they can be hard to identify. I like to look at "Liberty" and see that is is weak/mushy and also have both large date and small date coins right next to each other. For me it is hard to tell what you have from your picture.

I would buy a SD 70s if I could find one for $25.
Is that MS or beat up?

The ones I have seen lately were high AU/ low MS .. that were selling at those prices. I will have to get my extra's out just to see what grade they are .. have not looked them in years
