That obverse die looks very similar to the die on my example shown below. I cannot be sure if they are die matches from the images. This was my first ancient coin. Martin

Very nice coin Martin, but I don't think it is a die match. It's hard to be certain with the image of the OP coin being so small, but the first difference I see is the twist of the right leg and the tilt of the head of Mars. I suppose we would be able to tell better with a larger image. Your coin, however, is beautiful in it's detail. Even the detail of the face of Mars. Outstanding first coin. Outstanding coin period.

The reverses are certainly not die matches but I was looking at the obverse dies. Martin

Quote: Having them side by side, I still don't think it is a die match, obverse or reverse. Close enough for the examination for sure. Perhaps the two dies were cut by the same celerator.
Agree. I regularly question whether two dies are the work of one hand or just two cutters trained by the same master. There is even the chance that more than one person worked on a single die (a face man, a hair man, a legend man etc.). I fail to see how we are to prove anything with certainty.

Wow Bing => those look like a couple of very nice, higher-end coins ... => well played, Dawg! (standing-O for those two coins!!) ... ummm, don't get me wrong, but I usually peg you for the dude that aims for the "not-so-top-shelf-coins", in an effort to save a few Denarius ... NUTS

jwharper: The dies that these coins came from are very similar, but they are not the same. The styles of both ar similar enough to suggest that they are from the same cutter, and were cut in the same period of the cutter's artistic development.
