PP and I went along on Saturday where we were lucky enough to meet Australian Coin and her family. As far as coin buying went we did ok with some nice errors and a smattering of high grade world coins. High grade, problem free Australian material was very hard to find at the show and we didn't buy much. In fact in three days of looking at the show and every coin shop in Melbourne I didn't find one Australian coin for my own collection. It's getting harder and harder to find good Aussie coins.
Attendance at the show was pretty pathetic really, last year I could hardly move at the tables in the first two hours, this time we had the pick of seats wherever we liked.

I went along to the show and had an enjoyable couple of hours there. I ended up buying a last prefix ZLD paper $100 bank note UNC for $340 which was a good deal. Thats cheaper than they are going on ebay. I also bought a first prefix AA 02 $10 note. There were good value notes there. I tend to avoid coins at these shows because they seem to be overpriced.

I decided to go this year, since I'm in Melbourne anyways. I did'nt think too much of it. I went on Saturday, attendance was pretty poor I thought, and did'nt see much selling/buying, more sightseers I guess. IAG had the best quality and display in my opinion. Did'nt end up buying much.

I was hoping the Rare Coin Company were going to be there, cause I would mind investing in a show piece in the future & I was looking forward to discussing options. But not there. It's not going to stop me from selling a large portion of my collection in the next month - or two.

Yeah I agree, I wanted to see the Rare Coin Company there also. They have top top notch coins and banknotes. And a good reputation. May I ask how you are going to sell, through internet or auctionhouses? I am in the same boat, trying to cut down and move on with the 'smaller valued items' and purchase something significant. I don't like ebay since it's hard to sell something in true quality there, especially banknotes and then auctionhouses, well they are dealers looking for bargains. I'll have to think about it more.

I was disappointed that Ye Olde Coin Company wasn't there. There are one of the most reasonably priced dealers I have dealt with. I have got quite a few good quality items from them. Maybe ANDA shows are in decline because of the internet and ebay. It seems that fewer people are buying coins retail.

I remember the days when you could find coin shops scattered around Melbourne, there still are a few, much very much declined since the advent of ebay and the internet. I envy the action the USA gets, yeah their population is much bigger I know, but their market activity, and collectors is so vast compared to here. Look at their coin shows, they are huge and take days to get around. I guess more has to be done to bring new collectors in and expand the hobby.

I was disappointed that Ye Olde Coin Company wasn't there. The dealers have probably weighed up the feasibility of carting their whole kit to the coin shows,i imagine it would cost a fair bit to do that & unless attendance is really high, then it probably is'nt worth the trouble. From what we read here attendance seems to be way down last year & this year. MOR's is right though Ye Old Coin Co is a great bloke to deal with,

Yep, I traded some NZ Star notes for some Samoan Specimen notes. I was suppose to offload some NZ threepences to him, but I completely forgot in the end.

I ended up doing more selling than buying from John Eccles. From coins I purchased in Auckland from his twin brother that I then sold to him I made over $400 profit
